Bright orange mucous, sometimes very watery and at other times very thick, and lots of it coming out of my nose. I've had a head cold and I've been doing an Arise and Shine 7 day fast. I've never seen anything like it before. What is it? It's the color of egg yolk or ear wax. My sinuses seem to be clearing out and opening up, and I'm seeing less of the orange.
Does anybody know what this is? What does the orange color indicate?

So many others with the orange snot! Mine seemed to come out just once (so far). It was after a good bike ride and a hot shower to loosen everything up. I was sinus sick a couple weeks ago so I think I'm just getting out the last of the leftovers from that.
It seemed to come from deep in my sinuses somewhere. Really had to work a bit to get it out. Nothing unusual except the color. Looked like I'd been snorting red hair dye or something. I'll echo the theme of one other poster of having been on an airplane just after my head cold. I experienced some pressure related discomfort then. Maybe it was just enough to suck a little blood out of the vessels and into the mucous.
Anyhow, there's my experience for what it's worth.

There sure are a lot of people with the same symptoms,which is somewhat of a relief. I have never experience this before in my life and I'm almost fifty. Mine started somewhat thin, but is now thick and only in one nostril. The left---well I guess I'll be ok

well ive been picking my nose for a few days now and my boogers are brownish/orange. AND my nose feels like its burning or something on the inside...

Yea I got this, it come out quite frequantly very liquidy. I'm very stuffed up and theres a lot of the flu going around this month, only 2 weeks ago i got that 24 hour winter bug thing where my body was violently emptying its self from almost every oraphis possible for 8 hours non stop.
Now ive got this flu/cold and its really bad, I dont have a headache, dizziness or any symptoms apart from the bright orange liquid running out of my nose. Its really annoying because when ur not expecting it it can just pour out without u needing to blow or anything.
I dont think its a sinus infection. The liquid this morning and the night before was bright bright orange however its now less orange and just yellow and seems to be getting closer to colourless.
I really hope its not a sinus infection, since they can keep comeing back, i've already got a UTI that come and goes for no reason possible leaving no symptoms but cloudy urine.

Last night I cleared my throat and this stringing thing came out and was in my mouth. It wouldn't disolve or go away, so i took it out of my mouth and it all came in one piece, the string didn't break. It was so gross and really orange. I let it hang on something to dry overnight, not sure why I did that, but here's a picture of it dry. Really gross...

I've had the flu (or a really bad cold) for nearly two weeks now. Lots of sinus drainage. This morning I had the same liquidy dark orange snot -- the colour of earwax or idodine or orange juice. Most disconcerting. I still have a mad sore throat and a bit of sinus pressure in my ears.

That usually means you went through a head cold and your sinuses were clogged usually 3 to 4 weeks the normal Flora(Mucus) will begin to turn darker, sometimes it will be brown with what looks like coffee grinds ,not to worry but you should seek medicines to continue to flush it out.
You can do a home remedy that works well, Boil some water like 2 gallons in a pail and add some vicks vaporub and lemon peals to the water set the bucket by your bed and lay flat on your stomach and cover the bucket and yourself with a thick blanket and inhale for about 20 minutes, the first few whiffs will be hard to inhale, you should be about 24 inches above the bucket, do not get too close or the steam will burn you.
After a while you will get use to inhaling the stuff, if you keep your head down you will experiment a cleansing of you sinuses and most mucus will come out. XD

It just happened to me a few minutes ago. I don't think its an ear infection, because I'm not dizzy, and I don't think its from smoking, because my snot has never been orange before....and I have been smoking for a while now....anyone have ANY idea?

I have had this problem several times and was relieved to see that it is such a common occurence. From the research I have done, this is just simply an indication of an acute sinus infection. Very scary to see something of such an odd color coming from inside your body! And especially when it comes running out most unexpectedly!

Hi! I was so thrilled and anxious to know that someone else had the similar experience as i have with bright yellow mucus coming out of my nosrtils. Yes, is sounds horrid. I was wondering if the deep burgundy hair color which I used had anything to do with it. I do have a sinus problem, but it has been ok for a while. Any 'bright ' ideas?

This happened to me for about two days now. I have had a very bad cold and soar throat for almost two weeks. I feel much better now just the yellow stuff that is coming out of my nose that freaks me out. I hope it is nothing serious. do I need to see a doctor? :(

yeah I had the same thing a few years ago. I remeber waking up and leaning over, and a ton of liquid came out my nose, then I leaned my head on an angle and tons of it started to come out in a bright orange color. Haven't had any problems since then. It felt like it was a sinus thing
