Hello payi,

I know it's hard to talk about these matters with your kids and at such unexpected time, but sooner or later the conversation would have came up. It is hard for you, but just imagine how much scarier is the whole thing for your daughter - she has no idea about the fact that more or less all women go through this and go through it each month.

On the side note, since your daughter is only 9 years old - is there a chance that this wasn't menstrual spotting but maybe was caused by urinary tract infection?

Wish you all the best,

Nicole

I can only imagine how hard it must be, it's hard even for me to believe that 9 year old is getting her period and has entered puberty - I guess that's why I was thinking it has to be UTI or something. It's really baffling. Your little girl has to go from playing with toys to having periods and going through all the changes puberty brings... and you are in such a tough position where you have to explain this to her. Just one bit of advice, take all the time she needs and try answering her questions as truthfully as you can. The last thing you want is for her to get twisted information from other girls in school - you probably know yourself how tough they can be to anyone who is different in any way. Hope you get the strength to get through this!

Girls can have their periods earlier than that. She will learn, just make sure you have everything she needs to do so!
