The struggle is real. As a gym rat and Vegan for decades... I have gained about 1 pound a month for 7 years. Doesn't seem like much, AT FIRST. And it's easy to dismiss as we approach and pass 50. However, I can promise you that there is nothing in my diet that would ADD weight. I even gained weight when I had pneumonia and hospitalized. I DO know how to work out. I DO eat for nutrition and not just taste. There is absolutely ZERO doubt for me NOW. I did not figure it out after gaining 12 pounds in one year. Truthfully, it looked fine. But the gains wouldn't STOP, regardless of my effort. After the 2nd year, I realized something had to give. So i double checked my food and activity levels and made an EFFORT to stop gaining, even if not losing weight. Nope! But good luck trying to convince your doctors... I gave up.
