I agree!!! It does make you gain. Doctor doubled my prescription and I gained 30lbs in two months! I have never been this weight except when I was 9mths pregnant and dropped all of it three days after giving birth. What else can I take. My heart rate was 42-38(at lowest when on monitors so I can't be off meds) but there has to be another way.

I can relate to what you are saying here... But in my case I had been on Levothyroxine for my thyroid and started rapidly gaining weight and my doctor made comments about how unhealthy I was getting not taking it all in that I ate healthy and that it was the pill I was reacting to violently so against her better wishes she Changed me to Synthroid. After that change I went up so drastically I could barely walk or move anymore! I could eat a salad and gain weight... Eat nothing and still gain weight... I have learned that these doctors here in the Northeast are not so sympathetic about weight gain. They assume if you gain you must be doing unhealthy things but I try to eat healthy and before this I had just recently lost 120lbs and was really proud of myself but in under 3 months I have gained back 140lbs because of some side effect backwards reaction to these medicines! To make matters worse I was actually off of the medicine when I went to my most recent Doctor and she said my test levels were all in the normal ranges so I tried to get her to not put me back on anything but once she realized I was no longer on my med she got furious with me and admit about how I would get sick without it so I went back on it! And I had actually started to lose weight again for a while there and didn't even realize that it was the thyroid medicine keeping me from doing it in the first place! Now in knowing it this entire thing scares me because I feel like a Guinea pig to all of these doctors who obviously didn't truly care about my health from the start! Because if they really did they would never have told me we will worry about the weight gain part later when I kept telling them it was literally killing me! Well I control what I put into my body and I just forgot that for a little while there and went along with what they told me to do but now I am doing things for me so I am now crossing my fingers and praying for a safe and healthy change and positive results! Losing this weight and having something positive come out of it will take another long time but hopefully it will be worth it again to get the results and healthy outcome I am looking for! I wish all of you the best with whatever you do too!

I was always at a healthy weight and active but thyroid problems run in my family. So I went to my doctor had test done and was put on Synthroid. I gain weight so fast! 10 Lbs between doctor appointments and I couldn't even look at myself in the mirror. I had put on 50 pounds in such a short amount of time. I thought this medicine was suppose to help speed up my metabolism! I did some research and saw there were people gaining weight from the meds so I just stopped. Maybe I should not have done that but I did. The weight came off, I am back to my regular weight within 6 months. I am in a small town with limited doctors, I did not tell my family doctor I stopped because I know he, too will be angry. I feel fine, my BP is down ( it went skyhigh with the weight gain) , I am looking for alternatives

Hi D - Could you go into more detail about "recovering your thyroid through the human body's natural food source fruit and vegetables"?

It's horrible stuff. I still cannot find an Endo who will listen to me and I've been on it for 8 years. I am getting good results finally after gaining 35 pounds with vitamins. It is regulated by a naturopath but I won't stop the Synththroid because I am to scared. I could look at a cookie and gain 5 pounds. Try the naturopathic dr. It's expensive but so worth it! I'm also doing Shakeology and working out hard! 15 pounds down, so far.
