They didnt take it out!? Go back in and have them do more tests and get it taken care of. I never had any gallstones but had pain for well over 5 years untill they did the radioactive die test to see if my gallbladder was working and it was not. I then had to make the decision on if I should get it taken out because they told me I didnt have to but I chose to have it taken out because of the pain. After the surgery the doctor apologized to my mom and said that I would have had emergency surgery if I had just tried to live with it. I realize this post was over a year ago but like just thought I should say something......and also look up gilberts syndrome,

knife like pain in upper right side that comes and goes

OMG, I've been researching and researching to find out if I'm the only person experiencing the exact same thing you described. Mine started a little over a year and a half ago. The pain, of which I'm in right now, feels like I'm being stabbed with a red hot poker in my rib cage, upper right abdominal area. Sometimes it feels like someone is squeezing my rib cage and there is a tight band that keeps getting tighter and tighter.
It makes it hard to breathe. Trying to eat ir drink anything is excruciating. Test after test after test and when the doctors cannot find a definitive answer from blood work or CT Scan or MRI, they don't know what to do, so they do nothing. I do not have a gallbladder, liver tests are slightly high, low CO2. I need this pain to stop. Has anyone had any doctor help them with this? I'm scheduled for an MRI of the rib cage area and I'm hoping it indicates what's going on. My abdomen stays swollen, yet not able to eat much at all.

Hi, guest.

Here are some of the potential considerations related to the symptoms you're describing might include:

1. Costochondritis: It's an inflammation of the cartilage that connects a rib to the breastbone (sternum). It might cause pain similar to what you described.

2. Liver issues: Since you mentioned slightly high liver tests, it's worth considering the liver's potential role. However, liver diseases are usually associated with right upper quadrant pain, which seems consistent with your description.

3. Post-cholecystectomy Syndrome: In some people, abdominal symptoms can persist after the gallbladder is removed, leading to what's known as post-cholecystectomy syndrome.

4. Other considerations: There are several other conditions that might cause similar symptoms, ranging from pancreatitis, pleurisy (inflammation of the lung lining), and muscle or skeletal issues. Sometimes gastrointestinal conditions can cause referred pain to the rib cage area.

Here's what you might consider doing:

Consult with a Specialist: If you've been seeing a general practitioner, it might be beneficial to see a specialist like a gastroenterologist or a rheumatologist, depending on your specific symptoms and tests.

Second Opinion: Sometimes, a fresh set of eyes can provide new insights. If you haven't already, consider seeking a second opinion from another healthcare professional.

Pain Management: While the root cause is being investigated, discuss with your doctor about pain management strategies or medications to help alleviate your pain.
