I can not find the answer to this question. My son is two weeks out of wisdom teeth extraction and has residual left chin and lower

lip numbness. He never lost feeling to his gums or teeth. Is this a good sign that he only had partial damage? He has had some itchy feelings and tingling but mostly numb in the affected areas. Seems to be like most people with this problem also have gum and teeth sensation loss.  Thank you

I contacted many attorney who said because I signed a waiver of potential injury, the surgeon may not be liable. Have yet to find anyone to take my case. My lip has been numb a year after oral surgery! Also hair loss which I never had before surgery and a bruised cheek! Who was your attorney?

Did you sign a consent form prior to your surgery?...I'm sure you did, and were well aware of the potential complications from wisdom tooth extractions. How well has the money from your settlement treated you??

How about they don't offer freezing and only offer the putting your patients to sleep option..... we live in modern technology now. I got lingual nerve damage because my doctor wanted to put 7 needles when i told him i was frozen at 4. they didn't have the put you to sleep option. and almost a year next month and my right side is still numb and i haven't been able to taste food since. If there is a will there is a way. The problem with my situation is not many dentist now a days view their work as their passion they treat it more like a mcdonalds-in and out.

I don't know what I have, but had a crown done last March. This was a new dentist for me and very young, only 2 years of practice. Tragically, I trusted him. It was a long procedure since they were going to do the CEREC crown (same day) - 3 hours. He was very aggressive and I even had a bruise on my face the next day! My tongue was numb on my left side even before the anesthetic wore off. I mentioned it to the assistant while I was there and she told me I was just thinking it was numb and it would go away. It didn't, but got worse with burning sensation, tingling and loss of taste. A bad taste lasted on my tongue for over a month. I was so swollen after the procedure the next several days, never anything I had experienced before. I've had A LOT of dental work done, crowns and veneers. I went to the ER two days later because I couldn't swallow and I lost all sense of taste. They couldn't or wouldn't do anything and told me to go back to my dentist. Then I broke out in a rash that afternoon - face and hands with a horrid burning sensation. I called dentist and they told me to take benedryl. The rash did clear up, but I also started having major pain in my sinus as well as entire upper jaw that night. They told me I needed to have a root canal and I needed to go to a specialist. I was able to get in a few days later after experiencing excruciating pain. I could probably write a book on this, but to shorten things up, I have seen a bunch of doctors including regular MDs, an oral surgeon, ENT, Endontist, neurologist and a TMJ specialist as well as going to Urgent Care several times because I couldn't swallow. Thank God I have a medical insurance, but it has still cost me a couple of thousand dollars so far (not done yet). Things have improved a little bit, but not much after 2 months. I can taste almost to normal now, but textures are different and I have difficulty swallowing sometimes. The burning sensation is worse in afternoon and night after I've talked and/or eaten anything. I also have ear pain and neck pain on the left side. The dentists, oral surgeons and doctors seem to have no clue. The dentist who did this and the dental practice do not want to admit any wrong doing. The main dentist replaced my crown for me, but doesn't want any more to do with me. Just so frustrated and angry. I might try acupuncture next. If anyone has any suggestions to add to other posts, please let me know. I realize this is an old blog, but I'm just looking for answers and hoping that this is not permanent.

I had two crowns put in two months ago. As the dentist was injecting the Novocaine,I experienced a severe burning in my tongue. Since then,It seems as if I decreased taste and still numbness in some areas of my tongue. I keep a white coat on my tongue all of the time now. Is there any point in going to an ENT? I get the feeling there is nothing that can be done.

I do have a lawyer. He is in agreement with dental surgeon doing "exploratory" surgery to correct lingual nerve with possible nerve graft. I'm concerned that after this surgery symptons could be worse.
