For the past 4 years I have been trying to figure out why I have this pain. When it first started I was diagnosed with Mononucleosis. I had a very swollen lymph node on the left side of my neck and a lot of the other symptoms that come with Mono. After about 4 or 5 months the swelling in the lymph node went down but I was still having pain in my throat. Once every couple weeks the pain would get so bad that I'd have to stop talking. For some reason speech made the pain ten times worse. About a week of no talking and the pain level would go way down. Then I'd start talking again but I would only make it about another two weeks before the pain level in my throat would sky rocket again. And this painful cycle went on for about 6 months. An ENT I was seeing told me that my tonsils were swollen and so within those 6 months I went through about two different kinds of antibiotics a month because none of them were working. So my doc set up a date for me to get a Tonsilectomy. I was eager to get them out thinking they'd solve my problem, but after I recovered from the surgery the previous pain I had was still there. In fact it had gotten much worse. And this time resting my voice for a week or so wasn't helping. I was in so much pain that I completely stopped talking for 9 months. During that time the same doctor diagnosed me with Silent Acid Reflux and put me on Nexium. It helped a little with the irritation on the inside of my throat. But it did nothing for the soreness of my throat and the pain in my left ear. He then told me that he couldn't offer me any more help and transferred me to an Otolarynologist. He scoped my throat but found nothing wrong. Just that I had a little extra mucus in my throat. So he then transferred me to a Speech Therapist. I worked with this speech therapist for 12 weeks and he got me talking again but not without the pain. And this time when I started talking again I noticed I was aggravating the glands under the left side of my jaw and on the side of my larynx. But he didn't know what to do about that and he didn't have anyone to refer me to. So I went back to my family doctor and he sent me to do all sorts of tests. Tests for hyper-thyroidism, hypo-thyroidism, para-thyroidism, rheumatic arthritis (even though I didn't have many of those symptoms), I had CT scans, MRI's. I was getting used to having my blood drawn a couple times a month. In the end nothing came back abnormal except for three cysts in the left side of my thyroid gland. But the Thyroid Specialist I saw said they were benign and declared all my glands in fine working order. No one had any suggestions for me after that, aside from going to a pain clinic. I had a friend recommend an herbal doctor (Bionetic Practioner, is his offical job title) and I went and saw him. I talked to him about the pain I'd been having and he perscribed me some herbal drops. I can tell they're helping a little but they aren't completely getting rid of my pain.
So that has been the journey that I've been on the last four years. It's pretty lengthy (and sadly it's only an outline), but I was just wondering if anyone else has had some of this kind of pain they can't get rid of. Or if anyone has any insight about anything I've written or has any advice for me, please let me know. It's been a hard and straining situation so I need any help I can get. Thank you so much. I really really appreciate it.

Hey I was diagnosed with Lyme Disease and Babesiosis. Babesia tends to cause a lot of neck problems. I had a protruding lymph node on my left side when I first got it 4 yrs ago. It's still swollen, but it's pea size now. I got a western blot and found out I had babesia. Look on line for symptoms and see if they match up. You just never know. I hope this helped. Good Luck
