i suggest only and only way to all these problems is exercise.  Especially, muscle exercise it releases the pain and one feels much better.  Hardly 10 minutes job to strengthen the muscles.  Excercise like neck moments from left to right and vis-versa along with rotating very slowly.

I have this same pain, cause when I graze my left temple, just inside of the hairline... It started December 2011 and lasted through June 2012, when it subsided. In addition, I have a vibration or noise inside my left ear as well... it has continued throughout. I believe that I have TMJ and that these symptoms are caused by this condition. This week, I have an upper respiratory infection, and guess what came back? Yep, the pain in my left temple... unnoticeable unless grazed with the fingers... so annoying.

I had an MRI in June/July, which was normal. The noise in my ear is masked by noise throughout the day... I only notice it at night, when I'm lying down to go to sleep. I've gotten use to it, so that it doesn't agitate me when trying to sleep.  luckily, their is no constant pain with whatever condition I have...

I have visited my family doctor, an ENT and a neurologist, none of which have been able to identify my problem. I have not visited a TMJ specialist yet... but am considering it. There is very little information out there on this condition.  I'm sharing my experience here in hopes that it will ease the minds of those inflicted by this condition. One of the first things you think of is cancer- brain tumor... I know, I've been there. Good luck to everyone and please continue to contribute to this discussion as you commence your treatment. Hopefully we can find a solution together!

Althought, I'm sorry to hear about all of your pain, but in a way I'm glad I'm not the only one.  I've been suffering for the past 3 years of the same problem.  Headach, neck pain, tender temples, numbness on one side of my face, ice pick aches, you name it and I got it.    My doctor refuses to send me to CT scan because he doesn't think it's anything to do with the brain, and says that I don't need the radiation.   However, he does believe it could be a combination of my poor vision and sinus problems.  I'm stuck because I don't know what to do.  He tells me to take aleeve and live with it.  I'm tempted to get a CT scan and pay for it myself 'cause he won't write me up a referral.  Good luck to all of us.

Peace...

I don't know what is causing yours, but I have a lump directly over my temple, not having struck my head. It isn't a dental problem

because I don't have teeth any longer. If you find anything out, please let me know

I have had the same problem for a few years now been to the doctor with headaches he has never sent me for a scan, but I'm sure if it was anything sinister I would get other symptoms, mines on my right side and sometimes worse than others and if I move my head to fast I feel it, and although this sounds stupid, if I hit my jaw I get the pain! It's horrible to live with I just want to know what it is and how it can be treated

How often does the pain occur? Does it feel like piercing or searing pain that can migrate at times, and that comes and goes just as sudden as they start?

I am SOOO glad I found this! I am having the exact same symptoms! I also get pressure from the temple area down toward my jaw that is sometimes better sometimes worse. I noticed recently I've been clenching my teeth a lot and keep trying to stop when I notice I'm doing. A lot of my symptoms sound like TMJ. I am a hypochondriac so my first instinct is that it's a brain tumor... I have no money to go see a doctor so I just spend all day convinced I am dying. Seeing your post the the comments below has helped me not worry so much. At least for today. lol

^How do you do that??? I have the bump, pain, migraines, the bruising ALL of it on the right side of my temple and I just want it to go away. It appeared last year and it has changed color, size and tenderness all up until now...I've tried everything, I think I just need braces or something to fix my jaw and bring down the muscle tension on the right side. It's scary though, I will be going to the doctor/dentist one of these days for it when I have the money that is :( sucks you just have to suffer and live in fear of your health in this country ...I'll post what happens. Stay strong everyone, you're not alone .

Hi, same deal with me.  Comes and goes once or twice a year.  Had dental work done on that side and now the temple pain and pain in the neck area.   Are there any lymph nodes that could be inflammed as witn an infection?  I think it is related to the jaw being misaligned.

I have tenderness at left temple area at this time (just noticed it a few hours ago); i also at same time have a bulging vein at same area of forehead.  anyone else get tender painful bruised type spot w/ vein to boot? also, fyi, i do NOT have a history of migraines.

I do have a 100 percent plaque filled left carotid artery (with no corresponding pulse on left side of neck).  Not sure if these things related or not.

Same story here: about 3 days ago, I woke up and felt somewhere near my left temple aching slightly as if there's a bruise. I thought I might have accidentally rested my head on something, but in fact I didn't. Throughout the day generally I didn't feel anything strange, or any pain, unless when i grazed the part (somewhere in hairline, not exactly the temple. I checked, there wasn't any clear swelling or anything). I wear spectacles and whenever I put my glasses on, I could feel a slight touch of pain, just very slight... For the past 2 days the pain is almost non-existent unless when touched but I noticed it's more noticeable whenever I just woke up.  But today I feel it's a bit more noticeable. it's not painful but comfortable, throughout the whole day except for when I'm really caught up in work. That's why I'm searching around and found this thread.

I do hope this is just some tension headache coz I've been worried a lot recently. on the other hand, I have been eating quite a lot (perhaps due to stress), so I'm not sure if it could cause this. I'm perfectly healthy and there's no other symptom (nausea/fatigue though i do feel a bit demotivated, i'm not going to put it down to this ^^). I come back later if there's anything new.

Just to say turns out lots of people are stumbling into this problem, and perhaps everyone in this situation would be hypochondriac! (I did think of brain tumor, though I'm quite positive this is perhaps just tension ...)

I don't know what it is but I have that too. It feels like a bruised area. I thought maybe I might have nasal congestion and that pressure might be pressing on a nerve so I used a nasal spray. That seems to have helped somewhat.
