The ones where the pain doesn't go is coccydynia.

It's always when you're sat down that it's worse

when laid down it goes. It's best to get it checked out as in rare cases it's cancer

Have you found out what it is that causes you this pain? I have the exact same pain you described. It hurts really bad when getting up from a sitting position. I've had this for a couple months hoping it would just go away. I don't like going to the doctors much, especially to have him look at this area! As you said, I would be eternally grateful for some answers as to what this is.

I have this too I was looking around some people say that it might be that your tailbone/end of spine could be fractured broken or some sort of injury even though I cant really recall one

I have some pain too, and  I do have a small opening above my anus, when I googled it I found a condition called a Pilondial  cyst, It is giving me really bad pain in my tailbone and seems to be radiating pain up my spine..ugh. Gonna get a doctor to look at it.

I am not injured from physical activity.

But one day I woke up with this dull pain which isn't muscular... It feels more like its the spine itself. Its at the bottom L5 lumbar and the top of the coccyx bone.It is especially sore when I am standing and bend forward, It feels like it is out of place or something or like it needs to be cracked? Its uncomfortable when I walk and it hurts when I go to sit down and when I am seated it feels uncomfortable again? I have tried stretching, lying on the floor with my legs up for an hour, twisting, lay on my stomach on the floor with my while my kids slowly walk up and down my back, anti-inflammatory's, ice, heat and rest but nothing seems to work? Now every time I sit down the top of both my gluts (bum muscles) are starting to hurt.HELP!!!

Herniated disc...had same thing had surgery. Fixed back L4/L5 (s1). Dont mess around with chiro, therapy..demand mri immediately. Welcome to the back pain club! Sciatic nerve runs down back, thru pelvic (between 2 muscles) down legs. Sciatic & back bain have tendency to be best buddies, its one or the other...or both. Best of luck. Been dealing with sciatic since surgery in 2009.

I totally agree with your thoughts on this because I too haven't figured out my "pain in the butt". It couldn't be a cyst because it would be painful all the time right? And mine gets really sore after sitting in a back reclining position (such as when watching a long movie at home with family or driving for long periods. I can no longer sit on the floor and do my yoga. This has become a nuisance. I would welcome any feedback.
