It worked!

I mentioned earlier that I talked to my doctor about possibly using my Vagifem estrogen (small tablets inserted vaginally) for two weeks in a row and then going back to 3 times a week. I know some of you do not want to use any kind of HRT no matter what, but I'm willing to take a small risk in order to enjoy my relationship with a very wonderful husband. My doctor does not feel there is any problem with this kind of HRT, and the deal is I will take the higher dosage as needed and then cut back again. Besides that, I also did the vaginal massage and used a vibrator to help stimulate the tissue (you know, get some blood there). I don't know for certain if it was both of those things or just the hormones, but I was able to have intercourse with absolutely NO PAIN! The last time was so painful I wasn't sure I'd be able to do it again.

Again, check A Woman's Touch and use Madison, Wisconsin as part of your search so you don't get to a porn site. There is some good information there. Also, talk to your doctor about a vaginal hormone cream or the tablet, if you're willing to do that, and make sure you get enough to up your hormone levels.

I hope this information helps someone. Good luck!

I also have similar problem. I am now 56. After divorce & too busy raising 2 kids & not having sex for MANY years, I have found a man & we love each other & so we want to have sex but I was shocked & SOOOOO embarassed when we tried it for 1st time his penis wasn't able to even penetrate the opening. It seemed that there was a very tight shrunken ring of tissue just at the entrance to vagina called Hymenal ring. I went to the gynecologist & she said I needed some estrogen cream to insert into vagina to combat the thinness & dryness inside... well I used it but it seemed most of it just came out throughout the day. Then she gave me Vagifem which are tiny tablets that are inserted inside every day for 3 months...this definitely helped the inner moisture but still not able to penetrate the opening (I mean I can only put my finger inside...that's how small the opening Hymenal ring tissue will let slide through). So she suggested a gynecologic surgeon that specializes in pelvic floor issues. Well I haven't gone yet but I found some Vaginal Dilators that I want to try first.

I also did some research & found I actually have a tight hymenal ring that seemed to have shrunken more with start of menopause & maybe the fact that my kids were born via c-sections. So I hope these vaginal dilators will help & if not then to the gyney surgeon I go. Wish me luck.

Don't think i would do that op it makes u feel less fem , personal scent gone , don't have the urge to have sex, now I have the pain u all seem to have couldn't have a exam by the doctor and that was without the metal thing. He just used his fingers and i just about hit the roof. going back this week to talk about it, thats if I can without crying, so embarrassed and feel less like a woman. can't talk to anyone about it they don't have this problem.I feel part of the problem was the hysterectomy, which they never do in Europe. Losing my eyesight , so can't see to look.

I can so relate to your email; women have to gather together as a united front for a situation that seems unfortunately more common than we would like.

Just wanted to add an update. Gradually I started having problems again so I saw an OBGYN instead of my regular doctor (adult medicine). I discovered I was only using one Vagifem pill instead of the prescribed TWO three times a week! Still, I tried the cream again and I'm using the smallest dosage on the insertion tube. (It's such a small amount, it doesn't look like it would work!) Again, I only use it 3 times a week. The only other thing I do is massage some Liquid Silk around my vaginal opening daily, after I shower. I'm not sure that makes any difference, but sex is totally pain free so I do it just in case! Again, I know some of you don't want to use any form of HRT, but for the people who feel it's a minimal, acceptable risk, I can tell you it's made a huge difference for me and my husband.

I am so glad to have read what is written here. My wife and I are both in our early 60’s and still very much in love after 40 years of marriage but penetrative sex seams imposable. Her vagina after a hysterectomy has closed up and my penis cannot sustain a firm erection. We are still very affectionate, we cuddle, we use oral and manual stimulation and have a fetish activity we indulge in on special occasions.

The medical drugs companies are trying to push older people to pretend they are not aging and to take medication to sustain sexual activity that is inappropriate. My wife could have HRT or vaginal hormone creams. I could have Viagra or similar drugs but all drugs have side effects. We have decided to let nature take its course and accept that our bodies are telling us that activities aimed at procreation are no longer appropriate for people of our age.

I have found that estrogen cream (which you can get online) helps, but I have an appointment with a nurse on Monday!

Normill over a year ago ---- menopausal painful intercourse

Well I went to see the nurse and she had no idea what it was so she made me an appointment with a doctor, which I went to this morning. She told me the name of it but I can't remember what it's called now. But basically she said when a woman reaches menopause, the lack of estrogen makes things shrink a bit down below and if you already have this ring of tissue, the lack of moisture will make it feel uncomfortable. Now, I bought some progesterone cream a while back and this has helped enourmously - my doctor went off into a bit of a rant about all the rubbish online and its estrogen cream that I need. I have little confidence in the traditional medical establishment so when I get time, I will look into this. I'm sure I read a while ago that pregosterone cream makes your body create more estrogen.
