What are the signs and symptoms of Pingueculae? My friend who lives in Brasil came here to see me and he complained that he has this problem. I didn’t what to ask too much, but since I’ve never heard of this condition I was intrigued to found out.

Pingueculae are characterized by yellowish, slightly raised, interpalpebral lipid-like deposits in the nasal and temporal limbal conjunctiva and frequently found in individuals who are middle-aged and who experience chronic exposure to the sun. In most cases, they are an ancillary finding, causing little, if any, and ocular symptoms. Frequently, pingueculae can lead to the formation of pterygia and both can become vascularized and inflamed, and may be associated with corneal punctate epitheliopathy and corneal dellen. Pingueculitis occurs when a pinguecula becomes acutely inflamed, vascularized, red, irritated.
