Hi,

I had hammer toe surgery Oct 16 on toes 2,3,4 on my left foot. It was arthroplasty with pins in all three of the toes. I had my stiches removed on October 30th. For the two weeks between my surgery and stitches I had my foot elevated all the time and iced constantly, even while sleeping. The pins are coming out this tuesday Nov 3rd and have been told by my doctor that I can start to try to walk after that. My question is, is that since the surgery I have no feeling on the top of my 1st toe (big toe) which the doctor did not touch. However the bottom of my big toe has feeling. Also My foot every so often gets a burning sensation but goes away after several minutes. Another odd thing that is happening is that if I rub my fingers over the top of my foot I get tingeling sensations in my toes including my big toe. I asked the podiatrist and he said that because of the toes becoming straight the nerves have been stretched a little and are superficial near the skin, but should subside during the healing process.

Is this normal or could I have potential nerve damage? Very nervous (no pun intended) ok was intended. haha

thanks

I have toe problems - pain, swelling, possible bone infection after hammer toe surgeries. Anyone here with any experience with this?
