Hi I'm 10 weeks on from MIS Bunion surgery, I still can't find a comfortable shoe to fit as it is still swollen and painful
I am at present wearing a cohesive bandage during the day to help with the swelling, I saw my specialist 2 weeks ago for xray
and he says all is well and swelling can last up to 6 months! he never told me that pre surgery!

I had bunion surgery and I am at almost 4 months and miserable! I have to wear shoes 2 sizes too big and have swelling and fire hot pain. I am getting a little frustrated with not being able to walk normal. I would never do this again! I was wondering if anyone else has swelling like this?

I concur...my dr. said 4 weeks and walking in athletic shoes...I assumed my own...I am borrowing larger shoes...I am at 15 weeks and Dr still says it is normal...swelling, burning, and discomfort.

I had bunion surgery 12-19-14 . now the Doctor told me today 2-24-15 that the swelling would last for several months. (never mentioned before the surgery described as a slam dunk). now prescribed PT ... icing is my best friend and massage with scar ointment that he failed to prescribe four weeks ago... when ok'ed to go back to work,, he said walking would be my best friend..I worked a full day and paid for it the next 4 days.... . now, several weeks later, swollen foot still hurts and I am back to icing an wrapping.. I feel like I am back to where started and just got a notice from the insurance... rejecting a $7800 experimental procedure that was preformed..I have no idea after researching the medical codes what that procedure was and I suppose the fight is on now.. btw.. list price on this surgery was around $35000. of course the insurance covered a lot of it but other than the $7800,, I think my out of pocket is approaching $3k.
my only advise is get a second opinion and either way do not believe what they say.. get instructions in writing so you do not get mixed up on what you are supposed to do because as the DR advised t day, " you need to doctor this your self", which is fine .. but give me the F....king orders in writing so I can follow them... I have lost a lot of respect for the medical profession with this. You need to ask... record, film, or write down the answers, because if the results do not go right, they will blame you for not following their (vague) post op instructions.

Hi, I had bunion surgery on my right foot 3 years ago and the experience was entirely bearable perhaps because I have a somewhat high pain tolerance. No problems with flexibility and the recovery went well. week ago I had both a bunion and Tailor ' s bunion procedure on my left foot and was able to stop taking pain medication after the third day. In my opinion the worst thing about this type of surgery is not being able to move around as usual while you recover and of course the absolutely hideous post-op shoe! I swear someone needs to make it their goal to invent a nicer looking shoe. No amount of bling can help.

Do what doctor tell you. Very important to not move the first week and keep your feet elevated
Expect pain the 3rh day when meds ware off
Second week still not moving and keeping feet up
I am now in my 6th week
Wearing tenni shoes. No pain but my shoes don't fit

I had this op 8 weeks ago I am in agony with my hip and back due to walking in the cast, I am due back at work next week, I am a support worker, I don't think I can cope with the pain as a short walk leaves me in agony, I regret having this op plus I can't find shoes to fit

I had tailor bunion surgery 6 weeks ago. I don't know how painful it is to have surgery on your big toe but it is very painful. First couple weeks followed by pain on from the incision. I returned to work and most of my daily activities in darco shoes but alot of throbbing pain, shooting pain, burning sensation. Plus my arm has been hurting since after surgery and I suspect nerve damage or vein clot. Will go in to see my surgeon next week. This is strictly my experience and your post surgery experience can be different. Hope things go well

I had Bunion surgery 7 weeks ago. I can't wear shoes, unless I wear one huge wide shoe on that
foot and my regular shoe on the other. My foot swells daily, the area where the scar is located on the top of my foot is so tender. When I place my foot flat, Dr. told me not to bend my foot yet, I feel like I'm stepping on a stone under my big toe. I'm supposed to return to work in a week and a half, I'm on my feet all day, not sure how that will be possible. I'm quite discouraged, I feel I wasn't completely informed by the Dr. regarding the post op time. If I had to do it again, I wouldn't have had the surgery.

Hi, I am 5 weeks post op tailors bunion (scarf rotational) today. My swelling is light but can increase depending on my movements on the day. To assure you am also experiencing discomfort when I am weight bearing, feels like pins and needles and like stepping on stones. I’ve been told this is very normal and nothing can be done to rush the recovery, my consultant mentioned everyone’s healing is different but overall it takes 6/8 weeks for bone to heal. I know it’s an inconvenience with work but would advise to take it easy for now because last thing you want to do have setback.. all the best.
