Hi, I fully understand. Unfortunately that is completely normal after a tonsilectomy--it's very painful. And sometimes it is worse on one side because the tonsil was larger. Your doctor should give you pain medication for several days. Also, I hope you are on antibiotics as well, just for several days. It gets worse for about 18-10 days, then you will start to feel better each day, but it is very slow healing. Don't use a straw to drink. Do keep drinking water to keep them moist.

Thats gutsy! It's been a week since mine and Im horrified to eat anything solid more of less chicken strips and fries!
Did your doctor warn you against eating those types of foods?

I had my tonsils Mar 1, 2013. I had been going to the Dr for 11 months before anyone would help me. After about 4 drs and 15 visits later, I found on that would help me.....and that is one one that removed my tonsils. I hope that it will take care of all of my pain. The pain from the tonsils is bad enough. This is day 8 for me and still in pain but now , I am able to take tylenol to ease the pain. Now, still hurts to talk and swallow but hopefully the scabs will begin to fall off on day 10. That is what I am looking forward to...My throat didn't hurt. I just kept feeling like everytime that I would swallow, something would be stuck in my throat and I started getting hard stones in the top of my mouth and in the back corners of my tongue, in the little pocket on the side edge of your tongue. and then the bottom of the right side of my tongue would feel swollen and then I started getting a burning sensation around my tounge that would leave a red ring around the outside edge of my tongue. It is crazy I know but that is what happened. I went to 1 dr, he said acid refulx. I knew I had that and that was not the problem.I have had it for about  yrs now and it was a different feeling. I went to another dr he said he didn't see anything, that he would agree that it was acid reflux. I wasn't happy with that either so I went to another one. He ran the light down my throat too and said, nope nothing. I was getting so frustrated. I knew it was something that was different and it was not suspose to be there. I went to the dentist and the oral surgeon and they told to me tell the ENT at my followup visit to look for a  lingual thyroid or tonsil. I told them that, nope, that wasn't it. I had a camera down my throat to see my swallowing and was told that the muscle is behind and it does not swallow properly. I have had 2 MRI on my neck and troat and nothing.......I still feel the swollen part under my tongue but what am I to do?

It is the acid reflux. It irritates your throat and caused the pain and irriation. FOLLOW YOUR MD ADVISE and increase the prevacid.

I have the same symptoms and trying to clear out my nasal cavity affects my gag reflexes so bad I sometimes vomit I wish I had never had this surgery. It's worse when I lay down to sleep at night.

i am 16 years and i got my tonsils removed 2 years ago because of a swollen lymph node on my lower left jaw(WHICH NEVER WENT AWAY). after six days in recovery i woke up in the middle of the night beacsue i started choking on blood and blood clots that started coming out. my parents took me to the ER and they recauterized it. after being in recovery for another 6 days the same thig happened again. so they recauterized it and they told me i was very dehydrated. just recently iv'e been having a weird sensation that something is stuck in my throat for about 2 weeks. im not sure if this has anything to do ith my tonsills being removed. it worries me because it doesnt go away after i drink or eat anything. it doesnt hurt but it just bothers me and i would like for it to go away.

I never had any problems with reflux disease until after my surgery. I can only eat small stuff nothing to hard and have had a lot of pain under left ribs sence this all started but still find this crazy that just having this surgery caused all this stuff to happen. When I first complained about this they acted like this was somthing they never seen before but when I look online there's a lot of people complaining about this. I am able to deal with this now to a point only if I take 800mg of ibuprofen melted in hot water, benadryl and at night before I go to bed I take blue night time tylenol(r) and it helps knock me out. I have another test coming up in July for a bravo p h study to really see if I have reflux disease.
