Hi there...I am 18 years old and getting prepared to have my tonsils removed at the end of this month. I have already heard the horror stories of how painful the recovery is and how long it takes to feel normal again. I was simply wondering if the pain is going to be somewhat tolerable if I have a painkiller such as norco prescribed or if pain killers won't make much of a difference. Any positive outlook on this procedure would be helpful and reassuring. As of now I am DREADING having to have this surgery but I simply cannot live with the tonsil stones and tonsillitis anymore since ill be off to school in September. Thanks!

I know exactly how you feel. I'm 32 and I read those horible stories and was terrified too. My tonsillectomy was on June 28. All I can say is that I feel wonderfull now. I didn't take ANY pain killers. The doctors gave me something at the OR, but that was the first and the last time. I have to say that I had a cold knife tonsillectomy with almost no bleeding at all! I could drink tea and milk the first day, and on the second day I already ate some baby food with turkey meat, rice and carrots. Also I tried bread soaked in milk, ice cream, pudding... On the third day I was eating smoked meat, apricots, peaches, sour milk, yogurt, pastry and who knows what else. Yesterday I tried to sing-succesfuly! All I can say is that your feeling after surgery depends on you as much as on your surgeon and your anaestesiologist! I have to thank dr Jovanovic and dr Timic from ST Medica hospital, and to all their team. They did a WONDERFUL job. Today is day 4 after my tonsillectomy and I am talking normaly, eating normaly, singing and enjoying time with my children. I wish you all the best and a fast recovery. ;-)
