You're fine, That is perfectly normal. Some ice just TASTES great. I eat it all the time too. Even get up in the middle of the night to munch. I have two counter top ice machines running all day long and can't leave the house with out a supply of cups full of it. Normal. Unless I am not normal, but I THINK I'm normal so you must be normal too. :D

In 1996, during a blizzard, I looked outside at the beautiful white snow and was overcome with an obsessive desire to eat it all. Shortly thereafter, I started eating crushed ice. I had to have a large cup every morning, noon and night. Next, it became so bad that I would drive to the store and purchase those large bags of ice, pour it in a bowl and consume the entire bag. The craving stopped suddenly in 1997. I did not think I was anemic because during that time, I had healthy dosages of protein in my diet. Now, I do not, as I eat more vegetarian dishes, no red meat, and on occasion, just a little chicken or fish. The chewing on ice returned with a vengeance in 2014, after a TIA and horrible rheumatoid attack. I literally cannot function without a large cup of ice in the morning, after lunch, and 3-4 large cups after dinner. If the ice cubes are softer and more "frostier", I will start moaning in ecstasy. My aunt, who died of heart failure, had this same craving. If I do not have this repertoire of ice every day, I will suffer withdrawal symptoms and have to take Dramamine to keep from throwing up. I know something is wrong, but I do not have health insurance right now.

OMG, me too, it cannot be just any ice has to be that little frosty kind. Or a Slush Puppy. Good to know that that I am not the only one.

I am anemic and have been for at least 20 years. What I was never told is WHY. I take a multivitamin and an iron supplement and my iron levels are still very low. It is believed that the kidney problems I now have are a result of my anemia as well as complications from diabetes. A hemotologist and help you find out WHY you are anemic, i.e. if you just need to add more iron to your diet, if you are losing the iron you have through your menstrual cycle or if you have a tumor/cyst that is absorbing the iron. Of course I am not a doctor but my nephrologist told me that something is happening to the iron. I would suggest that someone start with additional iron in their diet. If that doesn't work, go see your doctor and find out WHY and not let the anemia cause other problems in your body that could be avoided if you find out where your iron is going.

I love crushed soft ice. WAWA has the best ice and it's free! I go in there and get 4 cups so it will last me til the next day. I have always been anemic and I know this is due to PICA. Not only do I have an iron deficiency, but also a vitamin D deficiency. I know I can take the iron supplements, but the constipation is what I don't want to deal with. On top of that, then I would have to take something to counteract the constipation...I'd rather eat WAWA's ice or better yet, the ice from my job which is in a hospital. Hospitals usually have the softest ice. I thought I was the only one, but when I went to one of the WAWA locations, the cashier told me they can't keep crushed ice in the machine long enough because sooooo many people come in for it al day long and the machine is empty usually. I personally think they need to get rid of the cubed ice in the other machine because who would want that??!

I, too, eat a lot of ice. So much I even get the pellet ice (like Sonic ice) from a little café here in town as I love the texture! Crazy, I know! I Have an autoimmune disorder side effects are dry mouth and eyes. I'm on numerous eye drops and special mouth rinse. Ice does moisten my mouth but think it's probably more of a habit although it does soothe my mouth! Catch 22! I would follow up with your doctor just to make sure!
