Well I have quit the bad habbit of smoking about 4 years ago. How I did it i ate sunflower seeds for about a month. Then I started eating ice cubes, I would go to the store aa buy a bag of ice just to eat it . Not at one sitting but you get the picture. It has been 4 years now It did slow down about the 3rd year, but life went on and changes happened which were dramatic , relationships broke , Now I fin myself as bad as ever chewing on ice.. Now I use to be anemic , so maybe I am anemic again.. But I totally understand you all with your habbits of chewing on ice .. It is just the crunching of the ice that does it for me. My biggest fear is my teeth will start to break apart.. I need to stop for my own good ..

It can a be a sign of psychological problem, please see a therapist. I know someone who got kidney tumor due to excessive intake of ice. Doctors were amazed to know that the cause of tumor is plastic wrap, probably been ingested long-term.

I craved ice with each prengancy (5 total) but the cravings went away shortly after giving birth. As I have gotten older I have started craving it again. I have had many health issues over the last few years and one issue is with my blood and I have to take Coumadon to prevents blood clots. I feel that since I have developed these  health problems my cravings for ice has gotten worse. I do have low iron and have recently been prescribed iron meds. I am hoping this helps to get control over these cravings because I have ice in my mouth constantly. I have a favorite kind of ice, and if we run out of ice I have to purchase a bag of it. My husband cannot stand to hear anyone chew anything hard like chips, hard candy, or ice. It drives him crazy. I'm just thankful he works out of state because he would have probably divorced me by now if he were home.

I have also had this problem for many years.  I am uncomfortable because i do not really know the side effects of eating the ice.  If anybody has noticed, when you defrost the freezer or the fridge, there is always a very thin layer of black soot behind the ice, its almost not visible to the eye.  I have always wondered what this really is.  Some years ago i underwent some laboratory tests and the Dr thereafter prescribed me some liver tonic because the tests revealed that my liver had some problem.  The only thing i could attribute this problem to was the freezer frost.  I got concerned but never took the tonic or followed with other tests.  I want to suggest that those who have this habit perhaps let us all go for liver tests and if anybody can afford, send a sample to a lab for whatever they can find.  Let those who have do the tests then post them here so that perhaps they could help someone.  I will also do mine.

Hi all.... Im 20 years old. I've had anemia for a couple of years now and I love eating ice. I prefer scrapping them off the freezer because then its more frostly or snowlike hence dont have to chew much. A lot of people say having low iron could causing ice craving but I neg to differ because I've been eating ice since i was very young. Everytime my dad sees me eating ice, he always says i havent changed at all. Having low iron could be a contrubuting factor to ice cravings but i dont think its the main cause of it... But for now, enjoy your ice guys xo

Seeking a answer. I to am a ice cruncher, as you all call it..I get from some that it does and from others that it doesn't thin your blood. I'm seeking an answer because I went in a store just to get a large cup of ice, and started to crunch down on my way out, a lady ask if she could speak with me for a second. She told me, she to was a ice cruncher that is until it thinned her blood to the point she had to get a blood transfusion..it had literally started to shut down her organs. this is what I was told..
