Hello, folks. My friend has severe heart problems. His mitral valve is not functioning well anymore and the doctor suggests replacement with prosthetic heart valve. I must admit that this is new for me and I would like to know something more. I will appreciate all your replies. Thanks, guys.

Hello. Mitral regurgitation, stenosis and prolapse are conditions that can compromise functioning of mitral valve. If there are severe symptoms, then surgical treatment is advised. The technology in making these valves has improved. They are made from many different materials. Some of them are: molybdenum alloys, stainless steel alloys, silicone, polyester, etc. Mechanical heart valves last more, I think. Your friend should talk to his doctor for more details. I hope everything will be all right. Good luck!
