I have a rectovaginal fistula, which has developed after several surgeries, which commenced from endometriosis. In March 08, I had a major surgery to remove severe rectovaginal endometriosis which had penetrated my bowel. After 3 days post surgery, I had a bowel perforation, and I had to be rushed to surgery to have an emergency surgery. Woke up finding myself in ITU with a massive scar and a colostomy bag which was my greatest shock of my life. After havind to try to try and accept the facts and try and recover from 2 major surgeries which made me very sick and unwell, I had to have the reversal of colostomy 2 1/2 months after. Even though, I had to go through all the pain again, i was looking forward to it. i couldnt get used to the bag. I went though a hell of pain with the reversal which was done in May 08. After recovering from surgery, I suffered from severe constipation, and I was diagnosed with sticture anastamosis, which basically means that were there was the connection, the joint of the bowel, it has narrowed down to such a small size that stools couldnt pass through. Therefore, I had to undergo frequent colonoscopies to dilate the bowel to a larger size. Now, that I was settling down, and trying to get on with life, i felt wind coming through my vagina, and I also started seeing brown discharge. I visited my Gynae doctor and he said it was a vaginal infection, and it was common to have one after so many surgeries. I took some antibiotics but it continued. After more tests, a CT scan confirmed I had a recto/vaginal fistula. The doctor cannot understand how it came. It could be that endo has caused it. I had to undergo another surgery, have a temp colostomy again for 6 to 8 weeks to give the bowel a rest and let it heal. Will then again have it reversed. I just cross my finger, it will heal. Just too much in such a short time in 6 months. Well. Endometriosis can be so severe, so its not only caused with child birth. My advise who has endo, please check it out before it gets to such a severe stage. i have to try and live with a colostomy for another 8 weeks for the 2nd time. Good luck to you all. Wish you God's love and Blessings to be given all your strength back.
