Hi, I read a newspaper article about RLS and tyrosine connection. Is this scientifically established and proven fact? Should I start taking tyrosine supresive drugs to see if it will provide me any relief?

Hi, I have heard about connection between brain iron acquisition and restless legs syndrome.
The neuropathological study has proven this in patients with restless legs syndrome (RLS). The substantia nigra was examined to get information about iron level. Iron presence and quantity is believed to be related to certain tyrosine enzymes, involved in iron metabolism. Other forms of iron, in which it is transported called transferrin and feritin are also not detected in enough quantities in brains of persons suffering from RLS. So, the theory of RLS being a result of defect in iron metabolism can’t be really supported by this study.
