I JUST saw my gyn and she looked, saw nothing, no leftover tampons, periods have been JUST like you describe when for years before they were regular and crampy. Now no cramps but Boy OH BOY the smell is just OmG and the flow is all over.....yup getting old is great, lol, thanks for sharing, you helped me feel better a year later!!

I had the same problem until I had endometrial ablation. When my doctor did the hystoscope, she found that the lining wasn't completely shedding each month and was extremely thick. So thick that she couldn't even see polops; they showed up in the biopsy. I was spotting for a week before my period, had an extremely heavy 7 day period, and then would spot for an additional 3-5 days after. I'm 43, and my hormone levels aren't high enough to promote a quicker, "more furious" period (for lack of better words) that would cause the lining to shed quickly and for all of it to shed. I believe it was this old material that smelled like rotten meat. I had the ablation done two months ago and had my first light period this month, and it smells like a healthy vagina does. If you're in your late 30's/early 40's, perimenopause will do some crazy things to your body. Best to check with your doctor! Good luck!

This started happening to me at 46. Dr advised i am pre menopausal. My cycle is really irregular . I've ha sevral paps and exams and i am fine. Best advise is its hormonal. You can rinse and wash and perfume all you want but your hormones are wacky, it won't change the problem. For me, using a tampon instead of a pad and changing it frquently helps.

Douching is not good for a woman's vagina.

I'm not sure if it is just age that causes that smell. I'm 24 and just started yesterday and I have never smelled anything like what was coming from the tampon I had just removed. It reeked like the worst and most foul smell of death and something rotting. I have been sexually active a lot more than normal this past week because my husband just got home from a job that kept him away from home for several months. I don't have any insurance either and don't especially want to go to the hospital and get checked out because I have so many other medical bills due to several other medical issues I'm having right now, but I am scared to death that something is really wrong.

Douche is really bad. It will totally throw off your PH balance. Plain Greek yogurt, yes, douche, NO!

Try using a different brand of pad like caress or kotex. I also use shea moisture superfruit body scrub to gentle clean down there. It exfoliate and It is $10 online. You will have to change diet a lil too eat a lil less protein, lots of water and drop dairy for a while. I am big on organic so if u wanna go hard i drink ginger tea and green tea to help the system clean out. My mom help by boiling lettuce and drinking the water but my mom for real goes to far.

I'm 46 and going through periomenopause myself. There can be a odor during your period. It's pretty normal with hormones and your body releasing fluid. Due to ph levels in the vagina, you don't want to use any scented sprays or feminine product for odor. It breeds yeast infections..been there, done that. Just keep things clean as much as possible, which I'm sure you do already:) You may be the only one who notices. It should go away once your period is over :)

Hi. I know this post is a bit old but here goes anyway. I too have these issues. I'm 53 and per my doctor started perimenopause at 37. :( Anyway, Aunt Flo, your story sounds a lot like mine except for being a vegan & the caffeine consumption. I'm so over these ALL of these changes and am wondering have you had any improvement in your situation. (Looking for the light at the end of the tunnel. lol) I've always been told that douching is bad but from these posts it seems to me that this would be what's needed for this 'transition' period in our lives.
