Hey, if someone could provide any information about this, I'd really appreciate it...
So, in August 2006, I was on an orgainzed baseball team with a group of friends. During a game, a friend was injured from a collision and was severely hurt. He was brought to the hospital where he was diagnosed with a ruptured spleen.
He was 17 when it happened. The doctors did not remove the spleen or operate at all. They gave him antibiotcs and painkillers until it was brought back to health. They said he would be fine.
Now, I was wondering what the prolonged effects might be. Being a college student, he is now 20 and is working at a store where the job is sometimes rather physical. The other night he came home with serious stomach pains. We brought him to the emergency room where they ran tests and found nothing. He felt better after a fews hours, and we brought him home. He has been fine ever since.
However, I am wondering what kind of effects, especially prolonged effects, the original ruptured spleen may have. I know the effects of having the spleen removed. However, he did not and I was wondering what kind of lasting effects this might have. I was also wondering if there is the possibility for any future problems, especially serious ones.
Any information would be helpful, appreciated and would really put me at ease. Thank you!
