Hi all. I have been referred to a surgeon for my spinal stenosis and nothing worries me accept mylagram. I’ve heard so many bad and frighting things about it and I’m really scared. I haven’t been told that I need to have this but I know they will force me to have it once. I am wondering exactly why they do this test??? Is it really necessary and when??? I know that everyone has different reaction to the pain but any pain of such kind is…well…I just don’t like it… Also, I’ve heard that they keep you awake during the procedure – do they at least give something like valium to calm you down during the procedure? I am freaking out about it so please help me find out more about it!!! Thank you!!

Hi. I sympathize with you. I had myleogram four weeks ago. I too heard many bad stories about it and was not thrilled to have one, but I had to take it. Fortunately for me, it went well. I had very little pain and even though they did not give me any medication to relax or for pain during the procedure. I did just fine. I did have some dizziness and nausea soon afterwards, but none that I could not manage without medications. So, do not freak out just yet – it is possible that you won’t have it. But, even if you do, I’m sure everything will go just fine!
