i have all of your symptoms. There is a history of cardiovascular disease in my family. Went to ER, stress test, and heart cath. I do have 40-50% cloggage in one artery but cardiologist said would not cause the chest pain. Do any of you pass gas sometimes after the pain in chest happens? Never had acid come up or anything but have been taking prilosec over the counter for a month now and no pains have come. Have a lumpy feeling in V of chest also. If i push in V of chest at the time i have chest pain it actually helps it. Cardiologist agrees with me that it can be reflux without feeling the acid. As to taking blood pressure meds for the pain on one of replys is it could be muscles around chest spasing and pills may help some people especially if you are a woman in menapause. I would say for most of you to try some prilosec for a month and see what happens. The lump feeling could have to do with an ulcer possibly. Thats my next step. but I do feel alot better from taking prilosec. See if any of you pass gas after or while you have chest pain. Try to lay on belly and see if it will relieve gas.

yours definately could be gall stones. Do you get any pain in back about the same area? The ER will do nothing unless you become jaundice. I had middle of the night pains for hours at a time too. It was 3 weeks after giving birth and they told me it was my ribs moving back in place. 3 weeks later i was back again and dr. said it is most likely gall stones. Go see GI doctor. Yes it was gallbladder. Had over 100 stones. Good luck

I get those sharp pains in my chest at least once a day now. It's only been going on for only a couple weeks but man, do they freak me out! I do pass gas afterwards. I'm usually sitting down (at work or at home on a couch when it happens). And what happens is a real quick stab of pain for like 1-2 seconds right in the middle of my chest. Then I stand and walk to the bathroom or if no one is around I will pass gas. I've never in my life had this happen. It's only been going on for a couple weeks. It's really quite creepy. I too, have a family history of heart disease, but I do the annual physical and everything looks fine. I eat right, exercise & don't drink. I do have a few cigarettes a day and my age is 53. I do have to take a cholesterol-lowering medicine everyday, and when I do, the quick stabs of pain don't seem to happen so frequently. But I forget about taking my medicine and forget about the painful chests stabs until it happens & freaks me out. I don't have any lumps on my chest, I am carrying grandchildren who are getting heavier, not sure if that is an issue but I did c a post earlier about carrying kids that get heavier. Idk

As someone who is suffering similar pains and is getting it checked out, maybe ask about pericarditis.
This is swelling around the heart. the primary symptom is sharp pains to the heart, 2-4 seconds, before easing.

I have a theory about the cause. There are tiny radioactive material everywhere in are environment passing through our body all the time occationally they give off something like a E.M.P electromagnetic pulse. and the heart is real sensitive that is why it tends to always be felt in the chest.

Did you ever get an answer for this? I have the same thing that happened to me on Saturday evening.

I have been getting this lately. No real answer. But I think what it might be is a sliding hiatal hernia (which is extraordinarily common) is irritating the phrenic nerve and/or vague nerve as it slides up into the chest. This would cause the lump feeling around the xiphoid process (near the V part of your rib cage). The lump feeling can be higher, or it could feel like a lump is in your chest if the stomach slides high enough. You may not notice any pain in your stomach. For the people here that pass gas, I wonder if a sliding hiatal hernia could cause a fascial pull on the large intestine.
The pain is severe knock the wind out of you pain. For me, I wonder sometimes if that pain will be my last moments it's so intense.
Gentle myofascial release around the diaphragm, below the rib cage can make the stomach drop back into place. There are videos on YouTube showing this technique. In my case I can actually feel and hear the stomach move out of the diaphragm back where it's supposed to be.
After correcting the position of the stomach, you have to maintain it or else these phrenic/vagus nerves that travel through the heart may cause a recurrence of symptoms when the diaphragm spasms and pulls the stomach up.
This part is tricky, and I don't think I figured it out yet.
However, you can strengthen your lower esophageal sphincter by lying flat on your back with your palms in the air. Put your chin to your chest and hold it about 10 seconds. You can do this a few times a day in reps of 10 or so. A strengthened lower esophageal sphincter will prevent a hiatus hernia from sliding up.
Adding more acid to your stomach can also help it maintain position. Supplementing betaine HCL and/or Apple Cider Vinegar with meals may help the stomach keep down. Low stomach acid may contribute to hiatal hernia syndrome.
Getting a massage therapist to do rib cage release with breathing exercises can help the diaphragm relax promoting proper position of the stomach.
So while I am not sure, I believe these pains are associated with random spasms of the diaphragm. I think they can be random or induced by air quality or allergen that makes the diaphragm spasm. Other stressors may be involved.
But that pain in the center of the chest feels dangerous. It's hard to believe that it may be the stomach causing it even with some evidence.
