Me too. Sharp electric shock pain at tip of tongue, usu. upon dosing off and sleep head sideways. Age 58. Prob. Old age...

I've had a similar problem. Sharp pain down the center of the tongue. Feels deep, like it's being split. Also always at night as I'm going to sleep. It focuses to a point at the tip, and every morning after I wake up with a canker sore or blood blister type thing at the tip that lasts a few days. Was hoping to find some answers here, but don't see any. At least I know I'm not the only one? Anyone get any info on this?

I'm also experiencing it. I'm 21 and It started about one or two weeks ago. I have to travel about 50km up n down everyday in my car n if i take a little nap these tongue cramps come into place. These are so much painful that it really feels like cutting of my tongue but only till i get fully wake up.n a little cutting pain still there for some seconds. I can't help it but i want it stop. Anyone knows anything what's the prblm in this.

I have the similar issue for past 3.5yrs. First I feel pain in my tougue i n my sleep. I should say it exactly feels like I got burnt my tongue with a heated ballpoint pen's nip to be exact. I quickly wakeup and try to figure out what happen & try pressing my teeth on that area (tip of my right toungue mostly) then it feels like as it it was a pain from biting but I am so sure I did not bite my tongue in sleep. I think it might have something to do with stress. I get this only when I am very much stressed emotionally.

Yes yes yes! I had this before 2yrs & consulted the doc. They have done blood tests everything came up normal except my iorn levels. I also felt something else like asif a wave of heat running through my body and it all gathered at the tip on my tongue or my lips like as if some one burnt my lips. The next morning there was a boil like painful blister which look and felt exactly like when we get burnt by something really hot.

yep, the pain is what is waking you up. I have the same thing and it interrupts my sleep.

Glossopharyngeal neuralgia (GPN) is a rare condition that can cause sharp, stabbing, or shooting pain in the throat area near the tonsils, the back of the tongue or the middle ear. The pain occurs along the pathway of the glossopharyngeal nerve, which is located deep in the neck. It serves the back of the tongue, throat and the parotid gland (one of the salivary glands) the middle ear and eustachian tube.

Same problem, so potentially thousands of people have had this issue from a large range of ages. I know typically many of the ages are similar, but that can just be a factor of people of certain ages are more likely to find this website. Age does not seem to be an issue.
Listed commonalities:
Lack of sleep / fatigue.
Lack of vitamins / minerals.
Overweight / Diabetes
Stress

Not everyone is going to have all of those, but that's what's been listed as possibly being a leading factor. Could possibly be nerve damage or caused by a tumor. Possibly a side effect of a weak organ. I'm just surprised with so many people posting only one doctor has made a guess (lack of Vitamind D & C).
