I also suffer from tongue pain. I have what looks like a sore spot or what a callus could look like on the right side of my tongue. I get a shooting stabbing pain from inside my tongue to that point. It wakes me from a dead sleep and hurts to the point of tears but only lasts maybe 20-25 seconds. It's been going on now for abt a year now and no I'm not biting my tongue. 90% of the time it happens in my sleep but it does happen when I'm awake. I'm about at my wits end can anyone tell me what it is or why it's happening? Please help me.

I have the same problem also take a statin and Zoloft. Guess how old I am? 48! It is unlikely from your other medical conditions because I have none of those issues.

I also have this problem. Sharp pains in the middle of the night. Feels like I am biting my tongue and then realize that I am not. I have been exposed to mold in our brand new home. Not sure if this is why. Has anyone else had mold spore testing of their air and found the same issues.

My wife just started this and she has been recently diagnosed with Type II diabetes. Since so many of the posters here are in their late forties the first thing I would do is get checked for diabetes and neuralgia.

I also have started getting the pain on the left side of the tongue it lasts for a few seconds, also happens as I'm halfway asleep or upon awakening. I do have Fibromyalgia and lower back problems but this just started and I have had the Fibromyalgia since 2009, back problems I've had for years as well. I'm glad to have found this forum but don't read of any root causes yet. I'm a breast cancer survivor so I am afraid it may be connected to that too.

Yep, same here. Googled around for a solution to this a couple of years ago. Someone mentioned dehydration as being the cause, and, as I only seemed to get it during the summer months (I'm in UK), it was a feasible reason and an easy thing to try. It solved it for me instantly. On the odd occasion that it recurs, it's always as a result of forgetting to drink enough during the previous day.

l have been having every so often these really sharp pains down the middle of my tongue that wakes me up, its also the same time l get swelling of my tongue and mouth then my tongue get sore and like l have burnt it. lt then follows on with dry mouth all the time. lts driving me mad as cant stop it. l have read can be stress related and l do get stressed sometimes as looking after my Husband whos had a bad stroke on my own, but l cant help but stress out sometimes. l just wish someone could tell me what l could get to stop this. As this stresses you out anyway. Thanks it is nice to know l am not alone.
