I came a cross a text on a popular medical website (not sure if I can mention the source here?) that said that high levels of lycopene, most notably from tomato consumption, were bad for the human body? I don't get that much lycopene, I am sure, but I am now worried that lycopene has side effects. What do you all think about this?

Hello fergus1308,
It's difficult for me to imagine that lycopene would be bad for you. It's a powerful antioxidant in tomatoes. You need to cook the tomatoes to get the beneft of lycopene. It is known for its ability to prevent prostate cancer. So if you are a male, I would think you would want to have a fair amount of foods in your diet that contain lycopene. You probably need to watch out for popular medical websites. They may not be what they seem. By the way, I eat a lot of tomatoes for their vitamin C content and lycopene. It's one of my favorite fruits. Hope that helped.
