Hi, I am post op day 5 of sinus turbinate reduction, tonsil & adenoid removal coblation. I am a 40 yr old female healthy weight and  weighed about 135 before my  midnight fast for surgery and have since BALLOONED to 142! I cant imagine how since the most I have eaten is 2 slices of soft white bread with butter just the soft part, water, jello, Popsicle, broths and very lil cream of wheat.I have liquids such as green tea, pedialite and watered down clear juices.. I am on generic dilaudid every 3-4 hrs for pain as needed, ES Tylenol every 4-6 as needed ,celebrex 2 x daily for 14 days post op,dulcolax  and a liquid that was one time dose dextramethasone on day 3 of post op NASTY stuff..My pain is getting better that I can go about 5-6 hours without strong pill and overlap with Tylenol and be ok. I have just gotten about 6  hours of sleep without snoring waking me up..and tried some mashed potatoes/cream of wheat still too grainy and hurts.. I have no idea how on earth I gained soo much sooo fast?I am up and about for short periods of time like 20 min then exhaust easily..So back to bed I go.. I am just wondering if meds are doing this. As far as my healing my nose is surprisingly very well, some swelling & bleeding day 1 & 2 , but with the saline rinse and nasal spray (only when heavy bleeding next to none) I have had not had any issues. I can breath through my nose while sleeping .I have had a humidifier on which is a BIG help and I do have some post nasal drip not bad or discolored and my tonsils are very sore in am and after eating something with texture like the bread but I guess I am just in shock at the sudden gain without eating..I did go on a binge the days before my surgery knowing I would not be eating for a while..but to put it on in 3 days is odd...HELP I was trying to be optimistic and lose weight : D

Hi, just take a deep breath in and out - 3 times.  Relax!  It's only fluid retention and the more days that pass, that too shall pass.  I do believe this occurs during most surgeries because they pump you with lots of fluids during the surgery before and after as well so it gets your veins going for delivery of the IV 'juices' such as antibiotics, pain meds, etc.

Thanks for response, I have to say I have 3 kids delivered natural & other surgeries. This is by far the hardest post op experience I have ever had. I know the result are going to pay off in the long run , I just would have never thought this type of procedure would require so much after care or hold so much water especially since this "diet" is all liquid .I have to say I am rarely hungry due to being so full of water I SWISH all over lol

I had an emergency c-section and had lots of fluid retention, a hysterectomy with the same and just recently had a major bunion repair surgery (which is why I'm on this site now answering posts to relieve my boredom of non-weight bearing) and this is the first surgery with no water/fluid retention, probably because it was the feet.
