It's not the hymen. You have a misconception about what they're discussing here. It's a vertical cord of skin that stretches vertically across the vagina close to the entrance. Some women are born with it, but not all. I know for a fact that this isn't very common because when my gynecologist noticed it she commented on it and said she had never seen anything like it before. It causes difficulty pulling out tampons and it is NOT easily breakable (I know because I've had to stretch it quite a bit to pull tampons out). And you do not want to TRY to break it because it's EXTREMELY painful just to pull or pinch it. So no. It is not the hymen, which you clearly thought it was....

I know it's not the hymen because I looked into the whole hymen thing, if yours is like mine and others I've seen girls discussing it's a bit cordlike and very strong. The hymen is very thin skin further back and it doesn't completely block the vagina so logistically it couldn't break in a way that would cause a vertical cord (following the logic of the path of least resistance). My gynecologist mentioned it the first time I ever went in! Maybe your gynecologist is older than mine and had seen it before. But so far a lot of comments I've been seeing have said that during their pregnancies the doctor simply removed it and it didn't hurt. And my gynecologist offered to remove it for free if it started becoming a problem for tampons or sex. Since it's then a health 'issue' most systems will cover it.

It's not a hymen. My gynecologist said she had never seen it before, (I'd imagine she'd seen a hymen), and I've had sex probably hundreds of times. It's still there. And it definitely would not break from having sex anyways because it's stronger than pretty much any other skin down there, it's almost like a cord and does not break even when you pull it painfully far to get tampons out.

It seems it's hurt one or two people when having sex, but personally I've never had a problem. I've had sex probably hundreds of times and it's never caused the slightest pain for me, or caused my boyfriend any problems. Hopefully this makes you less nervous :)

NO DON'T BREAK IT YOURSELF oh my god, that's about the most terrifying thing I can imagine. The pain it causes me just from pinching it is intense and once you did break it you'd have two weird strands of skin hanging there!! You can get it removed for free under pretty much any insurance program because it's justifiable as a health issue if it makes it difficult to take out tampons!! I hope you didn't already try to break it yourself ;-;

Verginity is something we made up, there's no real physical display of verginity. There's a misconception that we 'POP our cherries' the first time we have sex, but this is really misleading. The hymin is a ring of flesh in the vagina that can tear during sex, horseback riding, getting hit on the vagina really hard, and a lot of other ways. Eventually the hymin repairs itself.
Tl;dr (too long didn't read)
Verginity doesn't physically exist.

I do not know where you have got your information from about the hymen but your wrong, the hymen can take several different forms from a simple ring of thin membrane to a membrane that's perforated and fully covers the vagina entrance and once it's been ruptured it will not repair its self again.

could you simply just cut it off with small scissors or would it bleed too much? i've tried it with my nail but i just want to get it over with. something quick and easy. i'm just very scared and i want it to be gone without having to tell my mom or having to go to the doctors.

Over this last year or so I have become sexually active and obviously the first time hurts cause you have to break through the hymen, but each time after that, sex was absolutely painful to the point of me crying and pushing him off. It felt like he was ramming into something and every time he did, i'd have the excruciating pain. I went down there and looked with a mirror and noticed that it wasn't just a hole, there is skin inside of there. My boyfriend feels something inside whenever he goes in and he can only stick to the very top or the very back and cannot move around without hurting me. I really need help figuring out what this is because I'm afraid I'm going to need surgery or something to get rid of it. PLEASE HELP MEH!!!

It's actually quite different than the so called "cherry" that gets popped when a girl loses her virginity. It's actually a small flap of extra skin that few women have and it makes inserting tampons and losing your virginity even more painful if not removed.

It's not the hymen I can tell you that for a fact, I'm a teenage girl and I recently had surgery to get it removed. Tampons got stuck on the it and I couldn't remove it and I had to go to the doctor to get it out. It's extremely common and is only minor surgery, you feel a little bit of discomfort after surgey but after a day it goes away. It was really painful for me to be fingered or anything like that, it's completely normal. Hope I helped
