My step mother insists that her grandchild is allergic to my cat. But she has had symptoms for over a week after being at my house. How long do symptoms last after being taken away from cat?

My daughter is allergic to my MIL's cat. After 8 years of battling with this and my daughter getting sick, I took her to an allergist. CAT's were her number 1 allergy. So, I've been doing a LOT of reading and I've read that even if my MIL removes the cat.....allergy symptoms can last up to 6 months, even with correct cleaning for an allergen-free environment. The cat exposure every other weekend keeps her sick on a continuous basis, it only varies in degrees. PLUS, the meds she has to be on now make her more succeptible to illness, so she can pick up any old cold or flu ANYWHERE which adds insult onto injury and has now developed into "asthma". So, YES...it is possible for symptoms to last for up to a week, even if there isn't another exposure. It takes a while to get over a "flare up".
