Sorry, it is an eating disorder. The fact you hide it, "just don't do it in public", proves that you know something is wrong.

It'a a form of bulimia. In particular if you binge and then spit it out on a regular basis. It can be addictive and hard to stop. Sometimes, a person only does it with a few foods and seems to have more control over the habit. But, if that person can't stop doing it, after a while it is an addiction. By the way, it may help you lose weight but it's just as likely you will gain weight as it's very hard to control the amount that is absorbed by your body. This habit can develop on it's own or after a serious bout of another eating disorders. By that I mean, once one has had a serious eating disorder it may morph into other forms. It can be a life long struggle to stop obsessing about food and weight. My personal opinion is that these disorders develop because of genetic and environmental factors. In other words, you might have a predisposition towards obsessive disorders but if you are raised in a troubled environment which includes family, social cues from friends and the weight obsessed/food obsessed culture in general, you will most likely develop the problem. And, it is very hard to find the right kind of therapy as many therapists aren't truly trained to handle eating disorders (though they may claim they are) or the cost of specific therapy is far beyond most families budgets or individual's means. Teens as well as older women have the problem. Though we mostly hear about teens.

I've never in my life seen someone with any sort of authority on the subject of eating disorders say that sometimes spitting out sweets is better than eating them. I hope no one who reads this takes it seriously. Chewing and spitting out food is a serious disorder. I have put myself in ICU doing it. Please research further before giving vulnerable people advice on this subject.

I do the same. Works wonders for me. So here is a positive statement for you. If you do it right, like you and I, it works. What is it to do it right though. I think it is not seeking the sweets. In fact I don't crave them if there are not there but if they are presented by others or somehow I find myself around them, not due to my doing, then I feel the need to consume them. I take them and enjoy them in private by spiting them out. Eating healthy meals is also key. You don't want spit out things that are healthy and wholesome foods. Fat is not the devil, sweets and carbs are. But ever since I've started spitting out sweets, I have fixed my insulin resistance, dropped my belly fat to almost nothing, and no longer have belly aches from eating pounds of sugar food when it was around. I also do 16-8 intermittent fasting every day, so that helps with cravings.

It proves no such thing. We also don't want to see others clip their toe nails or take a dump in public. Those surely aren't disorders yet out of courtesy we do them in private.
