I hope you get a great answer. I'm searching for answers too. I have had this for a while. First I was given three days of Cipro, then 7 more days. They sent a culture to the hospital and it came back staph. They put me on Macrobid for 7 days, it wasn't gone so now I'm on day 7 of 10. I can tell it's not gone. The only test they have done is a urine culture. Should they be doing more? I'm starting to get nervous.

I don't know if your problems have been resolved, however tell them to check your blood and urine for MRSA, methicillin resistant stapholoccocus aureous. It is not common to get this, but it is also very hard to get rid of. You have to be treated typically with IV vancomyicin. Look up MRSA on whatever info site you prefer, you'll find it very interesting. Hope that your infections are cleared and you suffer no more, if not I hope my information can help you to finally resolve your problems.

I have it too and I am starting to get nervous. My Gyno. put me on microbid and it did not work. I was also on cipro and it didn't work. Finally they put me on bactrim and I go back on 03/03/2009 to be tested to see if that got it. I am really worried. Is this common?

My 13 yr. old son had a urine cultur last thursday that tested positive for staph in his urine. We go for an ultrasound next week of the kidney & bladder. I plan to ask the doc about MRSA that someone mentioned. The whole situation is quite perplexing because of his age, and the fact that he is circumsized (making this type of infection out of the norm). Any other advice would be appreciated.

OMG...I have this too, staph in my urine plus Ecoli. I have been on Septra, Bacrtim DS, Microbid, and now Bacrtim regular strength for 14 days. I have now had this over 2 months. How in the hell do you get rid of it and what is it caused from?

Well, it's usually defeated by some sort of antibiotic but it does have some antibiotic strains so I imagine that's what you're struggling with right now. Is that what's causing an issue for you?

i heard that once it hits the bladder and its still there after anti biotics that its anitbiotic resistant and in ur organs which means.. its ganna kill you. a treatment i heard of its a serious hard core antibiotic, in an iv for six weeks. my mother had to undergo this and she is free of it. she had her staph in her chest however and im not sure if this is an option for urinary based. my mother seems to think so. its worth asking ur doctor about. i started with a vaginal sore that was staph, several years ago. this last 10 months i have had six bladder infections due to staph. the last three were found with er visits that i was so dehydrated i couldnt eat. as im sure u know things to help are.. drink more water then u can handle. eat frequent and small, take cranberry pills, keep clean and rinsed. pee before and after sex ect... i cant say any of it works my staph has been taking its tole. the last three urinary infections have been while pregnant and maybe thats why i ended up in er. im nervous too. im scared it will kill. my first child was born from me after i got staph. he didnt live much longer then seven months. cause of death was sids. basicly... he died and doctors dont know why. i fear for this child i have due in a few weeks. and i believe that it will take me out as well based off my health five years ago and my health now.im never not sick. i am always sick. a mucus cough has been with me 8 months now. get serious about this. get rid of this. get it out of ur life before it is ur life. i take so much caution in avoiding colds, flus, bladder infections but i cant seem to get away from any of it. i plan on pushing drs on this staph soon as the baby is born to check my child for it, and get it the hell out of me no matter what it takes. ur partner should be checked with u, and if infected undergo treatment with u, and no physical contact between you. or the hole things kinda pointless. i hope you can be cured, i hope u can live on with out its return. good luck!

I just thought i would share with you all. When I was little I had recurrent UTI and when I became an adult it was worse to the point that I was deathly ill and had to go to a urologist. After lots of crazy test and a hospitalization because of a kidney infection (pylonephritis). He found out that I had Reflux of the kidneys and uteras. It would be my suggestion that you look it up and check it out. After all the years of recurrent bladder and kidneys issues I am permanently scared in my kidneys. Now my 2 year old daughter is having the same issues and I am already having her checked for this. It is something they dont check for and should be checked. Good luck to you all in your healing and health.

People! Please try alternative medicine. Go to an acupuncturist before you destroy your body with all those antibiotics. And if you must take them please take probiotics at the same time.

STAPH INFECTION IN URINARY TRACT
I am 24 and been a subject to UTI infections quite frequently.
I initially had a bacteria in the Urine called E Coli. That's apparently common and can be easily cured with excess of CRANBERRY concentrate or a medicine called d-Mannose (Nutrikon) which you take as prescribed by a nutritionist or get in touch with the nutritionist from Nutrikon.
Nonetheless, I just ran into this NEWS... as in the past, I have been treated with antibiotics for E-COLI, which would've been easy to clear with dietary supplements such as cranberry or substances containing d-mannose (the substance that kills E-Coli bacteria, found in cranberries).
As a result, my immune system weakened and over time, I ended up with a massive STAPH INFECTION IN MY URINE.
Staph is in the environment, but you don't pick it up necessarily unless you have been weakened by these infections.
Now this STAPH is resistant to antibiotics 60% of the time. And since nothing worked I looked for some ALTERNATIVE OPTION.
My nutritionist (I didn't have one before) prescribed a recipe for a consolidating diet while every morning and night (1st and last thing) I eat a spoonful of MANUKA HONEY with a UMF 16+ (medicinal above 16+) and guess what, at least my kidneys stopped hurting and the pain while urinating stopped for now. I am in my 3rd day of treatment. I have been told to do this for 3 weeks and then repeat the Urinary Test.
Found MANUKA HONEY UMF 20+ at WHOLE FOODS and it was $50. Now, it is pricy, but I spent a few thousand before that to figure nothing out.
To whomever posted this question and whoever wants this UTI's to STOP bothering our lives.
Also avoid eating bread of any kind, wheat, soy beans, yeast, corn, pork meat, sugars, coffee, orange juice, and a few other yeast or acidic related products.
Bacteria loves this environment and ingesting it means a warm fuzzy bed for those aliens to grow and thrive in our body.
Good luck!
I hope this helps.

I was in the ER three nights ago with food poisoning. I was called today by my PCP and was told that I had staph in my urine. I haven't really had any symptoms of a UTI, except for a little cramping from time to time. My doc called in an Rx of Bactrim and thats all that was said. Reading old posts, most people said they had additional testing. Ever since the food poisoning issue, I have been lathargic and have had a horrible headache. My stomach is sensitive, but I just that's from all the vomiting that took place. I guess what I'm wondering is: is this pretty common? What are some symptoms I should look for? Any info would be greatly appreciated.
