I started taking toperamate a couple of months ago I now have a horrible pain in the middle of my upper abdomen which worsens when bending forward, bending down, lying on my stomach or lying on my side. It also wakes me up at night. I have also had blood from my back passage when going to the toilet last night don't know if that is related. My stomach not only hurts but also feels like for example when bending down like something is there in my stomach putting pressure against my stomach muscle wall. Don't know if this is related but I have also had increased acid aswell. I was just wondering if this sounded similar to anyone else's symptoms and if so could you let me know please?

Omg. I've been worried I have diverticulitis. I started a month ago and am so sick to my stomach I've feared going to the dr because it may be Cancer or worse. What a powerful drug. I see my neuro doc next week and will be discussing this. Weight loss? I guess...... Would you ever eat with such pain every day of the minute. Thank you for your info!

Thank you so much for telling you're story! I was prescribed toprimatte for my life time of migraines. Started off on 25mg and to increase it each week by another 25 mg till I got to 100mg per day. The 25mg seemed to not bother me at all. When I increased to 50mg my stomach was killing me!!! Called my GP to see if there was a stomach bug going around and got a resounding yes! Was told to give it a week and drink tons of fluid. Sure enough I slowly started to feel better. I also called my Neourologist just to let them know what was going on. I had my appt., yesterday with him and he really wants me to increase it to 75mg this week and then 100mg the following week. So I did what he told me and omg, my husband was at work, and my stomach had me in such pain I was screaming, crying and pleading with God to help me!! I tried taking 2 gas-ex and 2 huge swigs of pepto. Finally it stopped!! This morning I took the 3-25mg pills again and it hit me harder and faster than the day before!! Now my husband is home today to witness this excruciating pain!! I said I'm not going to take it anymore. Then he started to berate me like I was a child and needed to listen to him! As any woman can understand that didn't go over too well!! No what I NEED to do is listen to my BODY!!!

"drink tons of fluid"

That right here is what everyone is missing. Topamax is also a diuretic and can seriously dehydrate you. Your intestines will pull all the fluid they can from what you have eaten and cause everything to slow down while allowing gas to accumulate and pass through.

Hydrate with a drink that replaces electrolytes and you will solve the problem.

If diarrhea is the issue then bananas are going to be your friend. I would eat 3 bananas daily. This also helped with hydration as there are electrolytes in bananas.

Could you please tell us what did you took instead of Topamax for migraine treatment?

I took this drug for 3 months. From the beginning the stomach pain settled right in the center, under my ribs/sternum. I also had horrific back pain. I've been off it 4 weeks now, but the stomach pain is still so intense. Tests so far are fine, but now I am worrying I have pancreatic cancer I hurt so bad. Never had a day with this issue until I took Topamax. Did your stomach issues ever resolve?

Thank you for your message.

Yes, my pain eventually went but took a full year before I had no pain.

Within a few days of stopping taking Topiramate I noticed a difference and it gradually improved.

Hope it works for you too. Keep me informed of your progress.

Wow - some people have severe side affects and they should have had you taken off before you went through all of that. Glad it is resolved now. I'm looking because the longer I take it. The worse I feel.

What is Ranitidine? Is it for tremors?

I realised after years of trying various meds that my most common trigger was stress. I didn't realise what stress was and how something simple could cause stress.
