As i had read each one of your posts, i have noticed one major thing. Anxiety. Its so hard to think that anxiety and stress could be the major problem here, because it would just be easier to find a physical problem that finding an emotional one. I am only 17 years old and i to have suffered from everything each and everyone of you guys had mentioned. I thought i was alone but as i read through them, i could relate so well. I know exactly what its like. It's scary and thus stresses your body out and fear takes over. I'm learning how to manage with this, and its not gonna happen over night. Instead of trying to find whats wrong with you, go out and look for what makes you feel better, and be more positive. you will not die from this, and you will not live like this forever, but its up to you to not let this control you. So with that said, believe in yourself and god. don't let Anxiety control your life, instead beat it. And im not saying that there couldn't be anything wrong with you, but the more you worry about it the worse it gets. mind over matter.

Hi guys Andrew Jones from Perth Australia here, im 31 and i work as a firefighter.. ive had the same problem for over 10 years... stress is an amazing thing.. operating on adrenaline due to day to day anxiety etc can do strange things to the body.. the feeling of not being able to get a full breath is the most annoying thing to me along with getting light headed and lacking energy.. ive got a few remedies that i believe help at the time.. as a last resort i use mersyndol or an over the counter calmative/sleeping aid ie restavit that contains doxylamine succinate, this calms my nerves and if i decide to use a full dose will help me get a full night sleep without drowsiness in the morning.. try not to get into the habit of using it frequently :-) anything/any activity that helps relax my body helps me to prevent the onset of tension and anxiety and therefore the physical symptoms.. massage once a week, time at the beach where cold water followed by warm sun relaxes my muslces, magnesium everyday, mylanta or an antacid that also contains magnesium helps with my stomach tightness/bloating/irritation, exercise that is not too agressive and gives you time to relax during your workout like interval training ie treadmill on higher speed for 200m then walk 200m, alternating this for a few kms, yoga or a balance/stretching type class is essential!!! stretching all those tight muscles especially the thighs which get tight due to the adreline that is sent there as part of our fight or flight stress response, hamstrings, abs to helps the breathing, all muscle groups!!!! they affect each other... see an allergist and find out which foods you are sensitive too.. if I can put up with boring leafy greens and heaps of salads/veg/fruit for a few days in a row i can be sure that the boring but healthy buzz from the good food will hold of the tension for a week or so... (try it!!) its amazing how wholistic health is... something like pigging out on junk food can bring me down super quick..

Hello....Wow....I am amazed to hear from other people who are having the same symptoms. I'm 25 year old female and I have the bloating/hard to breath on occasion symptoms for over 3 years.

I had this problem about three years ago. It took them almost 2 years 2 figure out I had H.pylori which aggravated my stomach and triggered my anxiety/panic disorders. I had the bloating, burning, tightness, feeling like I was going 2 explode, could not breathe and I was relieve when I burped, passed gas or had a bowel movement. I was scared 2 eat. At first they said I had acid reflux, then GERD, Irritatible Bowel Syndrome and Peptic Ulcer. When they discovered the H. Pylori bacteria they said that is what caused my Peptic Ulcer and prescribed me 3 antibotics 2 get rid of the bacteria which pretty much cured my condition. During this time I was on anti-anxiety pills Fluoxetine but that took almost three weeks 2 kick in. I do have the IBS so I have 2 watch what I eat. I am right back 2 square one right now but that is my fault. I have not been eating well in the last six months and pretty much kick in my IBS. When I have these attacks I take 2 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar or more and it calms my stomach down. I know it is pretty strong but it makes the attack milder. I am on my way 2 recovery, I take 1-2 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar with each meal. It is better if u take it with a glass of water and 1-2 tsps honey. I am getting bloodwork done 2 make sure I didn't get the H.pylori again or any other issues. I will keep u posted. I hope my info helps u. :-) TR

Wow Guest thank you so much! I was not aware that that could be the issue so I am glad to hear that's what the problem is. Thanks for posting information on it.

i am thirteen years old and a female. I have been getting a tighness in my back and stomach that makes it difficult for breathing. I got a MRI done on my back and they said it was just back arthritis. I went to all the physical Thearpy but it didn't help, it's something eles. I normally get this feeling 20 minutes after I eat. It makes it very difficult in school trying to sit down and pay attention. I am just very frustrated now.

Hi guys!
I HAVE THE CURE!!!!!!
I am 37 and have had every symptom you all are suffering from. Now i know this is going to sound too easy to be true.. so here goes..
You all all suffering from anxiety / stress. Your body, like mine & many others, is using its natural defences ie. breathing, panic, stomach tightness, etc. etc. as a direct result of what you are telling your mind to do and in turn your body is kickin in its natural defences! Having read many anxiety based storys and having suffered myself for 20 years, i have realised the only cure is YOU!!! You need to RELAX, THINK NICE THOUGHTS, USE BREATHING EXERCISES, IMPROVE YOUR DIGESTIVE SYSTEM BY EATING PROPERLY, DRINK PLENTY OF WATER TO HYDRATE YOUR BODY AND ABOVE ALL DONT PANIC!
Just try my method..... I can promise everyone reading, if you find a way to relax or even concentrate on somthing other than your breathing, stomach etc. its amazing how all of a sudden its gone! magic! I have been a professional musician working on stage all my life. It happened to me while in the middle of a show. Not a nice thing to happen. Most recently, there has been a death in the family and hey presto it got worse!! I know it is not easy to tell your mind to relax but this is the only cure. Medication will only relieve the symptom a bit. Trust me ive been there! So i'll say goodbye.. but remember..... YOU ARE O.K. / YOU ARE NOT ILL / THIS IS MIND OVER MATTER !!
GOOD LUCK TO U ALL. :P :D
I'm on the computer all day and I have a lot of the same stuff.... right now i have this weird feeling like in the top of my chest sort of when I breathe and etc like I cannot take a full breath... Its almost like somethings like suffocating me and its scary... and NO its not panic. I'm exhausted and getting ready to go to bed panic is impossible. Any ideas?

Hey, I have been having almost exactly the same problem as everyone else. I'm 19 and in college. However, this only happens at night, or at least to the extent where it becomes bothersome. I will wake up in the middle of the night with these symptoms.
I google searched breathing and computer air (and found this article), and I have a strong feeling that the air circulated through a computer changes it somehow, because my roomate leaves his massive gaming computer on throughout the day and most of the night, which is when I experience this "panic attack."
This used to happen to me at home as well, if I left my computer on scanning the hard drive at night (which is in my bedroom) then I would sometimes wake up like this.
I have been telling my roomate to close his door all day but he thinks I'm being super paranoid and antisocial.
Does anyone else feel this happens after being near one or many computers for an extended amount of time? I feel the computer chips emit some odorless compound into the air that causes the lungs to tighten up? I have athsma too but I take daily medication for it and still no improvement with this nightly terror.

I found this on wikipedia about CO2 overdose
CO2 is emitted by computers and can build to high levels within indoor settings
-------------------------------------------------------------------
"Toxicity and its effects increase with the concentration of CO2, here given in volume percent of CO2 in the air:
* '1% can cause drowsiness with prolonged exposure.[2]
* At 2% it is mildly narcotic and causes increased blood pressure and pulse rate, and causes reduced hearing.[43]
* At about 5% it causes stimulation of the respiratory centre, dizziness, confusion and difficulty in breathing accompanied by headache and shortness of breath.[43]. In addition at this concentration panic attacks may occur.[45][46]
* At about 8% it causes headache, sweating, dim vision, tremor and loss of consciousness after exposure for between five and ten minutes.[43]"

I suppose since you've found this topic, you are looking for the 'cure'. For most of us, stress is the cause. Anxiety stems from dissatisfaction with circumstances. As you focus on feelings of aversion, you are essentially neglecting your nervous system, which is there to create awareness of circumstances. Anxiety is accompanied by tightness in the muscles of the face and abdomen. Focused relaxation of these areas, although initially difficult, can greatly improve your posture, and reduce your anxiety. Work to develop a comfortable awareness of your posture and your breathing, in all situations - not just when you are feeling particularly anxious.

This thread has been extremely useful, thank you everyone.
I recently began feeling tightness around the chest, and an inability to take deep, satisfying breaths which got worse the more I thought about it. It started about 3 days before I was due to take a flight, and given my predisposition to an intense fear of flying + news of the Polish president's plane crash, this began happening. I'm a 20-year-old female with no known medical conditions, except a history of rather hefty mood swings which I now strongly suspect might be a mild form of depression.
Anyway, this new development just two weeks ago is truly is terrifying at times because I feel as though I will never be able to draw breaths at all and possibly die from it. I don't suffer from the bloated feeling that many have described, but the odd thing is this breathing difficulty usually goes away when I'm not thinking about it, and the moment my mind jumps to it, bingo - can't breathe properly again. Therefore, the more I think about it and through your posts, I've began to realise it's probably much much in the head - I'm currently taking this medication that's helping me relax, and I think if the situation gets worse I will go to a doctor to get anti-depressants prescribed. However, I just wanted to say I am so relieved to have found this thread after wading through loads of other information. Will definitely try to keep a more relaxed lifestyle, and keep everyone posted about how it's going/whether it's getting better, etc! I really really hope everyone gets better somehow!

I am a 50 yr old female who has been there and gone through everything that has been descibed by each of you. I've been to the ER, been hospitalized in the heart unit and administered all the tests which were fine. Last yr I had another endosopy and had my asopogus (sp?) stretched. That helped a great deal! I take celexa for aniety and that has helped me tremendously. I started exercising and taking off some extra weight. Recently I sr=tarted having some of the old symptoms again, but I can tell that more when I eat late in the evening. I also have sleep apnea but I don't use the cpap machine any longer. My dr is going to up my meds a lil just to help with the recent symptoms. Don't be afraid to try aniexty meds, I was, but they have helped me so much. I trust God to lead me in the right direction. I hope this has been helpful to you.

I am no docter, or expert on this situation. But this may be becuase of where you live. Air pressure, caused by higher altitudes, may be higher where you live currently, and though no one else experiences it, that may be because their bodies are different. I suggest going to a lower altitude for maybe a week, and see if it helps. If it doesn't, i suggest you talk to your local doctor.

I've been finding it more difficult to fully exhale over the last few months. And I've also noticed an increase in stomach bloating and some abdominal discomfort. I've been celiac since 2007. I felt better after cutting out gluten back then, but now I may have developed some food allergies. I'm looking into food allergy testing. I think my problem of not being able to fully exhale comfortably comes from abdominal bloating, possibly caused by inflammation due to food allergies. The higher pressure in the abdomen probably makes it harder for the diaphragm to lower to allow a full exhale. So for me both the bloating and breathing issues are frustrating. I ordered a food allergy test kit from York Test and hope it reveals one or more foods which I should remove from my diet.
