Believe it or not, try staying busy doing even the dumbest little things, and the symptoms will go away. I swear it because I'm going through it right now, all the tests and all the symptoms and nothing but anxiety to show for it. I'm a mailman that walks 9+ miles a day, I work out regularly, I run once in a while, and I coach my boys in ice hockey and baseball. The last 2 years when hockey slowed down in March, my body didn't want to. This time I ended up in the ER thinking I was having a heart attack. No history of problems in my family, it's all in my head. The other day I sorted my 4 yr olds cars with him and didn't even feel anything. I've weeded in my yard, gone swimming and roller blading with my boys, no symptoms. As soon as I slow down, my body doesn't. It's scary but more annoying knowing that there's nothing going on with my body except anxiety. Try vitamins, supplements, anything, but most of all keep active and busy. It feels like nervous energy that I never had before. I stopped drinking coffee and sodas and that helped, but had an attack from an antihistamine. Keep track of what goes in your body and you might figure it out. I'm trying real hard, and I hope to beat this. Good luck to all. You're not alone and the more you talk about it, the more you'll see almost everybody has or is going through the same thing.

mustafa: I agree with you about relying on God. I've been to many doctors over last few years with no answers. All I can do is continue to trust that God has a plan, which I can't understand right now. It may be his way to teach us to rely on him more. Suffering in life produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope.

Hey everyone. I know all too well many of your feelings. I just turned 24 and I consider myself to be pretty healthy as i'm in the miitary and i'm able to do well on my PT tests. However, i noticed these feelings get worse with smoking, dipping, and lack of excercise, and staring at computers or T.V's all day, as i'm in school now and i'm more stressed out than I was overseas. I sit at a computer most of the time or watch T.V. after classes. I've recently felt a sense of disconnection b/t my mind and body as if my mind were lagging behind my movements ( Originally when i had GERD my doc told me it's syptoms were dysphnia and feeling strange like this due to your insides having a soar for so long). I also sometimes have panic attacks and i was told i had Gerd a few years back. (zantac 150 a day helps) I'll play comp games all night or watch T.V when i get home from school until my body is exausted but my mind races. Dipping used to help me with this(when you first start you get a feeling of dizzyness much like drinking followed by drowssiness) However, as i've done it for a few years it's stopped working and i've read about how too much nicotine can Actually CAUSE panic attacks. Well, i'm trying to quit and struggling with this pain in my stomach but what really would help i believe is some adderol or antianxiety med along with a normal schedule and excersize. I'm gonna try and go to the doc today. I love reading about others like us bc it calms my fears of death. God helps too, as the weight you feel lifted after returning to him is as helpful as any med. If you're reading this at 5am, calm down and take a shower. If you feel like you can't breathe take a zantac. If you can't swallow...relax...breathe...and take some water and tell yourself that you re healthy and you're not gonna die looking up things that you think are wrong with you. Thanks you guys, my attack has subsided and i think i can sleep without waking up feeling as if my heart has stopped

I cant beleave there are so many other people with this problem, I have the same thing and I am afraid to eat, I know its all in my head because if its happening I can go fishing which is something I love to do and it goes away, It feels like i have a band tied tight right under my breast and I am always pulling at my bra to try and feel some release.. My belly feels huge and tight whether I eat or not! I have had this for years sometimes lasting weeks and then goes away for months..I know how scared all of you feel , mine got so bad over the weekend I made everything sore from trying to breath in a little air , felt like I was going to smother to death. The sad part is no one understands..

I was surfing the net to look up why I get so bloated and then short of breath after eating certain foods. I have done this for years and have anxiety problems. I have been an Agoraphobic for most of my life. I came across this site and read all of these replies and instantly started calming down because for the first time I don't feel so alone with this nor scared. I have always believed that my nervousness and anxiety issues have been the root of all my stomach and breathing problems. I have been to the doctor many times in my life because of the panic attacks and nothing was ever found wrong with me other than the anxiety problems. I hope that we all can find away to stop this madness and start being able to lead a more normal life style like most people do. I am so tired of living like I have been, scared of living is more like it. I want to live again and be able to go places anytime I want anywhere I want. Is anyone here Agoraphobic also that can relate to living in a prison within themselves that keeps you from going places and doing things with your family and friends? I would love to meet others who first hand know what I am talking about. I just want my life back and would love to hear from anyone who has a success story of getting theirs back. Thank you! God bless.

Susan

I am not very computer nor group smart. I am trying to get acquainted with the groups pages. I accidently hit the wrong button at the end of my last comment. I didn't mean to hit the icon that said this thread hasn't helped me because it has. So I am replying again to hit the right one. ;-)

The anxiety has probably kept you in "fight or flight" mode for so long that your body is not constantly in it. During this time you breathe with your chest instead of belly to provide your body more oxygen. It is helpful during certain times, like running from a lion, but not good for you when it happens often. The anxiety causes the chest or intercostal breathing so often the your abdominal muscles become shortened and don't allow for the same type of expansion. Eventually your body doesn't belly breathe anymore and you find yourself in "fight or flight" all the time. Even at home. For me it was so bad that I had to see a psychologist and chiropractor. I had gone through the normal medical channels before that. They seem to know nothing about this. I am starting to go to a meditation class this week. You don't have to be Buddhist to meditate and it incorporates all belly breathing. If you've never done it though don't think it is easy. Find a mentor first to show you how. I've also found stretches to lengthen the abdominal muscles and strengthen the ones in my midback to pull my shoulders back. There is hope and its not a pill or a surgery. Peace. If you need more clarification let me know.

hey everyone,
I too suffer from many of the problems that most of u do.
eating, and exercising cause me panic over my breathing

I'm pretty sure it's my bad posture, stress, and or air quality having grown up in San Luis Obispo, CA I never really had this problem I would occasionally helped my relatives remodel their houses in (LA) and would get the stressful breathing irritations. So I'm thinking it's the stress, air quality and bad posture.

I asked the doc for an inhaler, and it seemed to keep my lungs open so far

Practice real slow, not deep diagrammatic breathing (4 breaths/minute) for 5 minute while relaxing.

Do it exactly three times a day for a month then,

I believe I am pretty sure what it is, but unless you do it for at least a month there's no way I can explain.
