apparently its possible for the stomach virus also known as stomach flu/ gastroenteritis to last up to a month. try making him drink lots of room temperature (can be colder if he prefers) water.. they say fruit juice, gatorade, and sprite is also good. avoid dairy ... milk, cheese, sour cream, cream cheese, etc. also no whole grain breads (i have the stomach virus as far as i can see and dairy and whole grain bread made me nauseous and i had to vomit before being able to sleep. also avoid spice.
i just saw that you posted this over a year ago though so im assuming hes better now?

I totally agree. My family has experienced this off and on for about 4 years. It's the prolonged periods that are so frustrating. I think it's a public health concern.

I have had it for one and a half months. I had back pain, exhaustion and the crazy stomach pain with headache. I better but the gurgling guts and pain on the right side two inches above the navel. Husband, kids and friends have it too. Taking fire cider helps.

Hi my mom has been having (we think) stomach flu for 2 weeks and she is still not better. the first week she vomits and having diarrhea with watery stool every 15-30 mins but now its like 4-5 times a day only. She still cant digest the food she eats. Her stomach is also bloated and she had rashes on her body after her fever. She said her body feels weak. And she still couldnt eat normally. We already went to the ER 3 times on the first week and went to the family doctor 2 times. The family doctor took her stool, urine, blood and skin rashes test and the result will be back in 3 weeks. Im just concerned about it. Is this normal? Im really really scared and what should we do?

I've had symptoms for about 6 weeks now. I have had the pain above my navel on the right, odd back pain, fatigue, leg weakness as well as intermittent gastritis (bloating, vomiting, pain, diarrhea and constipation). I've lost about 8 pounds and I've missed a lot of work.
I believe that my symptoms are gradually getting better but it's definitely a practice in patience.

I don't usually get on the internet, but of course, stomach problems brings me here...Three weeks ago i had a sudden onset of severe abdominal pain, loose stools, constant cramping nausea, vomiting, alternating hot flashes/cold chills etc...i have not gone to the DR as i have no health insurance and cannot afford to rack up the medical bills. I thought this was a bout of IBS, but this just wont go away. I wake up in the morning, roll onto my right side, and all of the sudden, i get nauseous and am running for the bathroom. This nausea/bathroom run continues for about the first 3 hours i am up...then i am just super nauseous with abdominal cramping. The only time it settles down is when i am laying on my back or laying on my left side. I know i am hungry but at this point aside from trying to eat a cup of jello and keep water down, the only time i can eat is if i am high (legalized marijuana). My stomach is constantly in knots, and i am so frustrated with this. I have been told in the past that i really need to get a colonoscopy and an endoscopy done, but of course, that takes money and insurance (of which i have neither). I am currently alternating between Pepto (cuz it coats the stomach), prilosec and/or any other acid reducer i can find, Zofran for the nausea, probiotics for the intestinal health (30 billion live cultures per capsule)...it is ridiculous the amount of meds i am taking. Any advice out there would be appreciated.

I've been through similar issues. Mind, started with being extremely dizzy for a couple days went to nausea, throwing up, diarrhea, chills and headache, as well as exhaustion. I don't think I've ever slept that much before. Now about a month later, I still have, the nausea & diarrhea, but not as much, but I can't eat without feeling sick to my stomach . I've been having to eat jello & applesause and drink Gatorade . I've lost 20 lbs in less than a month (it'll be exactly a month on, the 30th). This is getting ridiculous!!

Eric, how long did it take before your felt better? I'm in week 3 and still fatigued, having some mild cramping, and nausea. It felt like my diarrhea was going to return today. I've also started getting chills all of sudden today. I'm still being told that it's a stomach virus. I have never had anything like this before. I weighed 226lbs a month ago. I now weigh 201lbs.
