It isn't strange, I'm 18 and recently have been experiencing the same thing! A little less than two weeks ago I woke up and my lip was swollen, it itched a little, was warm, but did not hurt at all, it was actually numb. It ended up swelling up HUGE. I went to the hospital and they said it was probably an allergic reaction, they prescribed me steroids and said to take Benadryl and go see an allergy doctor. Well, about two hours ago my foot started itching and getting warm, it's a little swollen and my skin feels tight so I can't walk normally. It's on the top of my upper right root, under the big down. It's warm too. I remember this same thing happening to my knees about two months ago but I did not think anything of it. I'm kind of a hypochondriac, so everyone told me not to worry about it, "it's probably nothing". But I know my body, and I know when something doesn't seem right. Please help!!!!

This same thing is happening to me, aside from the weight loss. I am also 18. My period was shorter, but I did not think anything of it, and I have also had to pee more often, I took a pregnancy test after researching those symptoms because that is one of the causes, but it was negative. I never thought I was pregnant, but it's the only thing that would make sense!!

Get to a thyroid specialist immediately and INSIST they do ALL the tests for thyroid conditions because they have 2 tests that aren't standard. A mal functioning or seriously underactive thyroid is very dangerous and can cause serious decline in your health the more time hat passes and you are misdiagnosed. I pray you will do this immediately. I WATCHED this happen to a young friend of mine and by the time they actually were able to DETECT the EXACT problem and treat it.. she had given up all hope. Today she is fine and leads a productive life. I could absolutely be wrong. I am just sharing what could be the answer to your problem. God bless you.

Hi Everyone,

My son has just started having symptoms as some of you describe. The likely diagnosis is

" C1  ESTERASE INHIBITOR DEFFICIENCY "

Affects 1 in 50,000.

Check it out and look at Google images too. Good luck.

Hi all ! I too am suffering from the same symptoms as you guys are. In the morning there are random swelling on any of my body-parts which could be as small as a pore of my finger or as big as my elbow or thigh or whole of a buttock. Occasionally there is swelling on the sole of my foot and itching does not reach beyond the thick skin of the sole.  When it occurred 5-6 years ago, it was treated with ayurvedic medicines (the ancient indian system of medicines) but it recurred after 2 years and then the ayuvedic medicines did not work.

I was being treated for Urticaria by a doctor for 18 months but no results. After that I switched to homeopathy which gave me 40% relief in just 3 weeks but after more than 4 months of treatment, the disease remains unimproved. I visited Institute of Liver and Biliary Science in New Delhi, India but they were not sure if my disease is related to liver at all !

Still living with it but surprised to see that there are so many of you who are suffering with the same disease like me !

So basically I'm reading this and well I too think it is stress it sucks because I can't go anywhere it started with my lip when I was in Mexico visiting an aunt who I haven't seen in years and well when I said goodbye I knew it was forever and she as well kept saying it we headed back to my parents house and well when I woke up my lip was swollen at first I thought it was a bug bite since the window was open or maybe the gum I was chewing but then it started happening more my eyes lips chin cheeks its hard because I either look like Rocky or Jay Leno or Bubba Gump or Kiko and sometimes it's starts with one part of the face and the rest gets swollen too this really sucks cause nobody has a solution but at least I know I'm not alone

Hello again everyone! I've posted on here before as I was having the same exact problems. Swelling of the lip and red, painful welts on my hands and feet. I have since gone to 2 allergists, the first of which didn't help figure much out. He did put me on weekly shots and I've still had a few small instances of lip swelling. I saw a new allergist yesterday and in speaking with him, I have figured that I'm allergic to ibuprofen. I had stopped taking ibuprofen because I had suspected it to be the problem over a year ago, but my previous allergist never agreed. My new allergist said that swelling of the lips, hands and feet (angioedema)  is a typical NSAID pain reliever reaction. Just something that you might want to speak with your doctors about. He said there is no way to test for it, you just have to eliminate it and see if the swellings stop. I hope this helps everyone!!

At 2:45 am yesterday morning my hands and upper lip started itching to the point they were painful, got up to see if I had been bitten or something and the swelling was so bad I could not see the veins in my hands, nor make a fist. The finelines and wrinkles were gone in my face because of the swelling. Within a few minutes I was having trouble breathing so I drove myself to the ER. They checked for bug bites (none found) gave me a breathing treatment, a shot of steroids, took an x-ray to check my lungs (had some wheezing, I have COPD) and heart was fine. The swelling seemed to be the worst around my joints, my skin was stretched to the point that it felt like it could crack, and the color was beet red, but the joints themselves were yellow, It stayed confined to my face, from my hands to my elbows, and mid-thigh to knees. Did not affect my ankles or lower extremeties at all. I was sent home with a prescription for Prednisone and orders to take Benedryl. This morning I still have some mild swelling in the hands, and a slight itch. But nothing like before and as I have psoriasis I am used to having a constant itch. I have not seen a rheumatologist, but after reading some of your comments, I am thinking that maybe I should. And yes the stress factor is extremely high for me. I am 47 and have never experienced anything like this before.

I started having a very similar problem. So far, there have been four episodes during last two months. On each occasion, a single region of the lip would start swelling extremely rapidly. Initially it feels like a mild sting and within minutes (literally) the entire lip wouls swell. If the swelling begins at the upper lip, only the uppor lip would swell. Similarly, if the swelling begins at the lower lip, only lower lip would swell. The swelling would maximize within about 30 minutes and stays for about 12 hours and then slowly shrink and almost disappear in about 24 hours. There is no obvious reason for it, for example it does not seem to be associated with food or any exposure to allergens etc. It happened this morning and I quickly kept the affected region of the lip cold with ice cubes for about 15-20 minutes. This stopped further swelling and so far, after about 2 hours, still there is no further swelling and it seems that the swelling is receding. It seems that cooling the affected area has a beneficial effect.

I to have been having the lower and upper lip swelling, fingers, hands, bottom if my feet, face, back of my butt, I have been tested for lupus and vastilitus (my sister has vastilius) all my test so far has been negitive however when my lips swell it makes me physically sick I can barely get out if bed (it last for about two days). Then I am ok for a couple of days then it starts all over. It's so depressing. I have tried to do my own research but it wasn't until tonight I have found others with similar problems. I have changed my diet but I still swell has anyone found vitamins to help? If so what kind. Feeling hopeless. Just retired and want to enjoy my life but this will not let me. Prayers please for each other.
