I cannot believe i have just stumbled across this topic! It was like reading posts from myself, all of the symptoms, the dead-ends with allergists.
I have been suffering from hives/urticartia/whatever since 1992, with no real relief. I have been on antihistamines, anti-anxiety meds, not much helps. If I get an outbreak, it lasts for days, 3-6 days. Prednisone helps, but that is dangerous to be on for extended periods of time.
I look forward to other ideas that you will all share, maybe help is on the horizon.

I have had similar symptons. I thought I only had bursitis because I have swelling in my heels and knees after resting for at least 25 minutes... but suddenly now I am getting swollen elbows, swelling in my right wrist (looks like a ball) that itches and turns red, and the other day the right side of my lip also swelled!! For no reason. I went to see a doctor but at the time I did not have any flare up's so he thought I was nuts.

I have been researching this all morning. I am an 18 year old female and last month my feet suddenly just swelled up like balloons, turned bright red, and had a maddening itching sensation that wouldn't go away. Ever since then it has been happening to me at least every other day. I don't have any swelling in my mouth or arms, but I do have fatigue, major weight loss (20 lbs in less than a month, went from 110 to 90 pounds), my body is sore, heaviness of the chest (feels like a 2 year old sitting on my chest), im not wheezing or gasping for air, but i can't take a really deep breath. I constantly have to urinate, more towards the night time. I also have major appetite loss. I'm not sure if this could have anything to do with any of this, but last month right before this happened my menstrual cycle only lasted two days, compared to my normal 5-7. I'm actually very scared. I don't feel well, i can't afford to go to the hospital or see a doctor. Advice? Suggestions? Ideas? Help :-(.

My wife has been having recurring problems with swelling of the hands, feet, and lips. She has done a lot of research and was convinced that it was Angioedema. This disease is rather vague on why it occurs and how to treat it. A allergic reaction test yielded little results except that she had low C1 inhibitor function.
She has been taking some anti-histamines for the past few months without any problem and this weekend it flared up again. This time I wanted to research to see if I could better understand it. After an hour or so I found this info...
Sex
Estrogen may exacerbate certain forms of angioedema. In HAE, affected women tend to have more frequent attacks and run more severe clinical courses. HAE type III is found predominantly in women. In these patients, taking oral contraceptives that contain estrogen is often a triggering factor for angioedema.9 Chronic idiopathic angioedema is more common in females than in males. Other types of angioedema do not show a strong sex preponderance.
Familial Estrogen-exacerbated Angioedema
Description
In women, swellings have been correlated with pregnancy or the use of oral contraceptives
I believe that it is occuring because she is taking a birth control. We are going to see if this leads any where but I had to post something on here because this was the first site I found and I felt obligated to post what I found. Good luck everyone.

The same thing happened to me in my hands two days in a row around the same time in the morning. The second time it happened to me I started feeling very sick. I was at a store and had to run to the bathroom because I felt incredibly nauseous, and for a few seconds everything went black. I didnt pass out I just couldnt see. I had the swelling in my hands a third time, but the sick feeling and the blindness only happened once. I want to say that this was at least 12 years ago.

I am having the same symptoms! It started with my lip swelling and that lated less than 12 hours. Then the itching and burning was on my feet. The more I scratched the worse it swells and the more painful it becomes. It is now happening in the palms of my hands, mainly in the pad around my thumb, and spreads into my wrist. Today i have actually had what feels like nerve pain up the inside of my arm. This all started about 10 days ago. About 4 days ago, I had a scary experience with chest pain, dizziness, and sweating. A visit to the ER showed that my heart was okay but a test for blood clots in the lungs ccalled a D-Dimer was elevated. They have decided this was a non-specific test since no clot was evident. I am puzzled and will be having a scope to check for ulcers and/or other GI problems. I wish there was an answer for this! My dad had tons of autoimmune issues so.....I really hope it is not that.

Yeah I too have symptoms like this. At firs one of my wrist started to swell. Not the palm. And the next day my upper lip swelled. And Now frequently my wrist is swelling almost every night. I also feel scratchy and swelling on my palms after my wrist swell . I am not in a place where even a blood test can be done. I do not know what to do. And if a mosquito bites that becomes much larger than that would previously be. this is the first time I am experiencing this.

I am a 30 y/o male. About a month ago my foot started to get itchy. After scratching it for an hour my entire foot swelled up. It hurt so bad i could barely walk. It happened again to the same foot about 5 days later. I thought it was new socks, so I tossed them but it happened again a few days later while sitting at home wearing no socks. It would last most of the day and be gone in the morning. A few days later it happened to my other foot. I went to see a doctor and she referred me to a podiatrist. Few days later it came back to the original foot worse then ever before. The next morning everything was fine. I was supposed to go see the podiatrist tomorrow, but I woke up this morning with and itchy palm. Next thing I knew my hand was all swollen and still really hurts. Dr told me to cancel podiatrist and see an allergist, so we will see what happens. If nothing shows up I really want my doctor to do some more extensive blood work.

I am 23 and have been having the same symptoms since I was 18. It started off just swelling in my lip and cheek (either side and sometimes it would be either top or bottom lip) and swelling in top eye lids. Again could be either side but once it was both eyes and because of this I went to hospital. I saw a specialist eye doctor who told me it was an allergic reaction. I had a blood test which came back clear (about 4 years ago) now the swelling is appearing on the soles of my feet and this morning I have woken with my eye (left) foot (again left) and thumb on my left hand. I hate it it gets me down an clearly something is causing it. I just dont know wha!!!

I am a 27 year old female and, I have been having some of these same symptoms for about 3 weeks now. I just recently saw my doctor who ordered a series of blood test be done to find out weather or not I'm having some sort of allergic reaction, because nothing in my routine has changed as far as soaps, detergent etc. I'm anxious to get the results and hopefully be done with this issue soon. I'm curious... Did anyone else experience any swelling in the fingers or toes?? That's been the latest symptom for me.

I am just writing in reply to reply to some of these posts I have been reading. I am 27 years old and I was diagnosed with Systemic Lupus when I was 7, I have experienced these symptoms my entire life. I take steady doses of steriods as well as other anti-body reducing medications. I know in my case when my hands, balls of my feet, lips, ears, whatever other random body part swells, including my veins, very painful, its caused by a spike in anti-bodies that pretty much just go hay-wire. I have found that momentary relief can be found by very hot water, and taking extra steriods. Benadryl helps a little, but doesn't fix anything really. My biggest recomendation would be to stay away from any sort of "Sprouts- legumes", direct sun light, and corn. Corn causes elivations in inflamation and is in almost everything, so keeping a food journal wouldn't help. Lastly ask a doctor to check your kidney function if they aren't functioning properly it can cause swelling of the hands and feet and very little tolerance to iodine, which also is in everything. Hope this helps and God Bless.

im not sure if it is the same or not. anyways i have been swelling up for two monthes now i am a 14 yr old girl and it started with my face. my eyes swelled up and i could barely see. then my lips looked like i had subjected them to botaux they were so swelled. it went down three days later. i went to the hospital and they assumed it was an allergy but i didnt do anything out of the ordinary and the benedryle they gave didnt help at all. they also gave me a type of liquid to help with the swelling, but when i got home my face was worse. then it happened again 5 days later my whole face again swelled up. along with my throat. my breathing was labored, and i was suffieciently drowsy when it started i could hardly keep my head up. it went down though again but then two days later my lips swelled up again, but not my eyes or cheeks this time. it was just my lips and throat this happened literally everyday for a week. we went and did testing and so far nothing strange has come out of it. then the day after the first day my lips didnt swell up after that week. my eyes and lips swelt up along with my throat again. this time though i could see more of the those bubbles things that swelt up my face on the outside of my neck and behind my ears and underneath my hair line. then it just kept happening over and over again. i dont know if this is related or not but i get headaches with them too, bad ones. none of the medication i get helps. then just today it swelled up in a new place. first on the inside of my left wrist and then on the right and then on my elbow. and on my back. with my face swelling it was just extremely uncomfortable but these new ones hurt, hurt a lot. i cant see any cause for any of this. everything im doing is the same ive been doing since last year. im not allergic to anything that i know of. and there is no correllation between the periods of times that this happens. but it just keeps happening and i have no idea why. advise, reasons, answers, anything would be nice right now. im falling behind in classes, im on lock down in my house, people are seeing me as a freak, i disgust my own parents. i need to figure out why this is happening and i need to know how to stop it. help is highly welcome

I have all of these symptoms. Swelling in hands, feet, wrists, lips. After NUMEROUS blood tests and allergy tests I was just diagnosed with non allergic idiopathic angioedma. All blood and allergy tests come back normal. Im not allergic to anything, but some sort of auto immune problem making my body produce a histamine. It goes away in 50% of patients in 12 months. I take a Zytec everyday and seems ti fix the problem completely. When I come off the Zyrtec, my entire body swells up. The dr does not know what is causing it but told me not to worry. Im lucky enough to live near NYC and the have one of the top specialists in he world for this so if the problem continues Im going to see him.
