Hi, my mother is 46 years old and she tried to commit suicide several weeks ago. She was on heroin for 4 years and after she decided to go to hospital and try to stop it she became depressive. Few weeks before she tried to kill herself she was talking that she would do it. She took sleeping pills but fortunately brother found her before it was too late. I don't know what to do with her.

Hi, your mother is passing trough very critical stage of giving up narcotics. During this phase she may have suicidal ideas, hallucinations and be very depressive. She has to be under surveillance of her doctor and under appropriate medication for such cases. Also all family has to be very supportive while this phase lasts and give her hand to come back on the right way.

Hi Latrena,

What support mechanizms does your mum have in place? It seems like she needs a lot of support at the moment, both professionally and from your family. It may be wise to speak with the hospital and get some referrals to appropriate services in your area that assist people going through withdrawals from drugs. I am not sure what area you are in, but perhaps you could try doing a search on the internet for some places in your area that can help with both the suicidal tendancies and drug withdrawals.

Wishing you all the best,

Cassie
