I am a female in my mid-twenties. Exactly a month ago the knuckle on my ring finger became swollen and slightly itchy. I figured I got bit by something since I couldn't recall any injury that would've caused it to swell. It's still swollen, it itches on occasion and hurts sometimes but not all the time. Recently a small red bump appeared right above my knuckle that is slowly growing in size. Does anyone know what's wrong with my finger? I don't want to go to the dr. unless I absolutely have to (no health insurance). Other than the annoyance of not being able to wear my wedding ring I can live with it, the bump is the only thing causing me concern.

Hi, I have exactly the same symptoms. It has appeared on 2 fingers. I've had it for 3 days and is particularly swollen first thing in the morning. Mine does not hurt, just uncomfortable when I bend the fingers. I am 45 and very healthy (don't drink, smoke, etc). I saw another article where someone responded by cutting down on nightshade plants foods (potatoes, tomatoes, etc) as they have an inflammatory effect. I'm going to try this. I hope like hell it's not Rheumatoid arthritis!
