I am 25 and have the same problem, this has happened around 7 times in the last 4-5 years and 3 times in the last 6 months. i used to have swollen lips followed by blisters all around the lower lip. Recently i went to a skin specialist and the reason for my problem was that i am allergic to quinolones... the Medicines like Knorflox-TZ, oflox, ciplofox, levoflox etc which are taken after some intestinal infection.  Whenever i used to have some infection , i used to take Knorflox-TZ, and faced this problem again and again, but never connected the medicine to be the cause of the severe swelling. Many people suggested me to take Herpes Simplex test but in my case the reason was absolutely different.

I have had the same problem, not only does it make my lips break out, but I get the same blisters under my wedding ring. The juice must react with the ring or the juice gets trapped and I can't wear my ring for days until they go away! The Dr told me the same thing...the skin can cause a poison ivy effect.

Thank you! I will have to mention this to my doctor tomorrow, it started Friday and sounds about the same, my dad gets cold sores regularly so he freaked out and had me put some Abreva on just in case, but after 2 more days they are now pretty sure that that is NOT what I have (by the look and symptoms, not time passed). THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!

im having similar symptoms. i started to have the feeling i was hiv positive and i decided to go get tested for hiv and all the stds they knew about. they took blood and cultures from my penis and it all came back negative except for one thing. i had some kind of bacterial infection. comes from being sexually active and my body generates it. idk. so about 2 months ago i started taking this antibiotic my doctor prescribed me. shortly after using the antibiotics i noticed a localized swelling on my upper lip. small but notice able. i freaked out. i was sure it was herpes. i had tingling in the swelling area so i assumed the worst. but the swelling never became a blister or crusted over. it just stayed there and tingled a couple times. later i started to see the inside of my upper lip begin to be puffy. not swollen but i could tell tht my inner lip didnt look right.the swelling on my upper lip disappeared but the inner lip puffyness remaind. its been about a month and a half since it started and it hasnt gone away. i stopped taking the meds along time ago and havent been in to see a doctor. any thoughts on wht this is?

This recently happened to me, well kind of. My bottom lip was so dry for 2 days & I kept putting chapstick on but it didn't help too much. On the third day, I woke up to my bottom lip being swollen & had about 6 blisters on it. Whenever I get sick, stuff like this happens to me, but I had just started my period & I believe that had something to do with it maybe. So here I am, a week later & the blisters are starting to go away slowly.

I have had the problem off and on for the past two or three years.  I have suspected several possible causes from ghost pepper to Chap Stick. I might still be mistaken but think that I have identified the cause as citrus peeling. The oil from some fruits seem to be worse than others, but I am learning to carefully peel the fruit, then wash my hands with soap before eating the citrus. Even then, knowing that I have handled the fruit while peeling it, I separate the individual sections and pop them into my mouth without allowing the fruit to touch my lips. It seems to be helping, but time will tell.

i have the same issue, except mine was happening every month like clock work on my period. and it was happening both down below and on my lips then it began on my forhead, my arms and legs and by butt. i saw 4 drs. all said it was herpes. finallyyyyyyyyy after 10 months they did a blood test, ive NEVER EVEN come in contact with someone who has the symplex virus, the blood test showed this, if so, i would have traces of it in my blood that would be dorment, but i don't. i have seen a disease specialist as well, whom also misdiagnosed me with herpes. im so pissed, and frustrated with this. i have yet to find a logical reason for this. but once my blood test was revealed as negative for all and everything under the sun that the sores resembled, it stoped. until today, 5 months later. i think its due to stress. im going to see a dermatologist tomorrow to have him do a skin scraf.

Thank you for posting about the mango. I ate a mango on Monday and on Tuesday I had these tiny painful blisters on both corners of top and bottom lips. It's Friday and they are still healing. But I'm glad to know what it is.

I had swollen blistery itchy lips and thought it was fever blisters for a whole week now. It started with one spot, quickly spread to 3, then to 6. I tried Abreva, HL30 and a prescription from the doctor- nothing worked. Comes to find out I have POISON IVY from a MANGO. Look up "poison ivy from mangos." The skin of a mango has the oil of poison ivy, apparently poison ivy on lips are common after touching mangos. So far Aloe Vera has helped tremendously but if it doesn't star going away soon- ill prolly go to the doctor so it doesn't spread to my face. I hope this helps!!

Its people like you, those who really have very little knowledge about what in the world that they are talking about, who can send these poor people into a full blown anxiety attack. First of all HSF-1 is an acronym that stands for "Heat Shock Factor 1". Second of all, what the original poster has described doesn't sound like the herpes virus. Actually it doesn't sound much like herpes at all. I just want to point that out and hopefully the person who originally posted has seen a doctor and had herpes ruled out completely. As for you, not only should you get some Acyclovir (topical and oral) before your hapless self spreads it to someone else, but you should work on that "Archy Bunker" syndrome that you have going on full blast. Furthermore: Abreva is simply a money maker for a large pharma corporation that barely will even deal with the symptoms, let alone contribute towards healing and possibly remission. It has been clinically proven that Acylovir administered properly during the first herpes attack can send the virus packing, never to return. Abreva sure as ____ isn't going to do that. Whatsmore is that if administered early during a recurring episode it can stop herpes in its tracks, again, never to return. Not always, but it can lessen the severity of a herpes attack and lengthen the time between attacks. They have new, more effective drugs to fight "HSV-1 and 2" and even a working vaccine, just in case ONE may be at risk for promiscuously contracting carpet burns of the chin. Read up and quit scaring the life out of the poor hapless people that you encounter. Worse than a rumor, you are.

I'm having the very same thing happen. You might want to check out 'histamine intolerance'. My homeopathic/accupuncturist doc has found that I have my thyroid has a low function, and this can cause the immune system to attack itself, producing allergic-like responses. I'm taking a homeopathic thyroid remedy, which is helping. When I stopped taking it, my lips began to swell again. I, also, can't quite figure out what the triggers are, but now that I have ready about histamine intolerance, I can see that I have reactions after I eat foods high in histamines. Wine and champagne would be included in this.
