My boyfriend has swollen glands everyday and it has been causing him a lot of discomfort lately. Both sides swell underneth his jawbones, and he feels what he descirbes as "tingles" in the area, under his tounge and behind his ears in the tender spot near the lobe, his mouth goes dry and it's hard to swallow, as though he can't get any wetness into his throat, when he does swallow harshly he can bring up saliva and blood. This ussually happens when he is about to eat or drink something (which is why I think it's saliva glands) He leads a very healthy lifestyle, however his weight can change fast. Do you have any idea what could be causing this? Thanks tiazeus

It's probably a tiny calcium deposit. I've gotten them all my life. When they're small, you can encourage them to pass with drinking water and sucking on sour candy. When they get bigger, a doctor can perform a simple procedure to remove them. I started having it done when I was about 10. I did have one that was lodged further into the gland. I was numbed by the doc for that (found after an Xray) but the day after it was very uncomfortable.

I had a salivary gland removed more than 20 years ago. It was affecting a duct beneath my tongue. About seven years ago, I had the same trouble with the same duct and had to have it opened to remove grit that had mixed with the tissue, so wouldn't come out on its own. (Gross, I know.) This week, I'm having the same trouble again! Just so you know, it can reoccur.
Also, something strange happened as a result of the first operation. REALLY STRANGE. Often when I eat, I develop a moist spot on my chin. (Not noticeable to anyone but me, thank goodness!) My doctor sent me to a specialist, who actually laughed when I told her. She told me it was very rare, but sometimes when you remove a salivary gland, the nerve that once stimulated that gland to produce saliva goes (grows) looking for another gland to stimulate. It found a sweat gland under my chin, and each time I should salivate, it triggers the gland to sweat. Weird...
