I tried king prawns for the first time last week in a restaurant. I’m not very fond of sea food, but this was delicious. That evening, 2-3 hours after had meal, I got attack of stomach ache, nausea and vomited 5 times that night. Day after I got migraine that lasted for about day and a half. Is it possible that these were symptoms of allergic reaction to king prawns? I don’t remember that have ever had such strong reaction on any food.

Common symptoms of sea food allergy are skin, stomach and respiratory problems. In persons that are allergic on seafood, even handling of seafood is trigger for development of allergic reaction. Manifestations are the same like in other types of allergies and include nausea, upset stomach, vomiting, nasal decongestion, light-headedness, swelling and cramps. I think that there is possibility that you had food poisoning and not allergic reactions, because fish is easy to spoil. You can do allergy test to check if your reaction on king prawns was allergic and to know to avoid it next time. I had severe allergic reaction on seafood 20 years ago and have never eaten it or prepared since then.
