Though this musical was artisticaly impressive, musically awesome, and choreographed expertly I just did not get the musical at all.
I wondered after the first part of the musical what the heck it was about. I appreciated every aspect of the show but the story.
I know this show had rave reviews and I fully understand why. It was awesome to say the least, but it just did not make any sense at all.
Some of the local cast were in the original broadway presentation. Needless to say it may have been the best "show" I have seen judged soley on presentation.
I think it has a lot to do with my logical mind and the need to have a begining, middle and end of a story. I just kept waiting for the plot to start.

Plot? There's no plot. :P I don't know how it was set up in Philly or what interpretation they used. I imagine it was the junkyard. But, when we had the show here in Chanhassen, it was incredible. The dancing and the songs were so impressive. But, no real plot. :P
exact same set up with the junkyard and all. I just did not get the point
I have seen it twice in Philly (Forrest Theater). I also had the clarinet solo for Memory. 8) But, overall it isn't one of my favorate musicals. Most of the second act is just fluf.
I thought so. The touring show probably keeps the same set. I've heard it has been done with an amusement park setting. Chanhassen set it in the back alley behind a London theatre. That worked perfectly.
I didn't get to see this tour but I've seen it several times. I like the abstract nature of it, a refreshing change from your typical "song and dance and everything's happy and it's always the same ending" type musicals.
