My mom has hysterectomy while on surgery she was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. She was doing well until recently she got those symptoms that no one thought could have been related to ovarian cancer. I’ve heard her doc saying this is silent cancer. So I’d like to hear of what silent cancer means? Thx.

My doc calls it silent cancer also. I was feeling very well, my outlook was ok until all of a sudden for no specific reason I become to be and to feel ill. At this point I was diagnosed with ovarian cancer at later stage. I went to chemo also and have survived for now. And that’s why they call him –silent cancer- you’re not even aware of having it until he spreads so extensively that your life is in risk. At my time one of the options to test your ovarian cancer cells was CA125 which is not reliable enough especially in later
ovarian cancer stages. But nowdays there’s one test that could make this cancer less silent for it provides a chance to detect ovarian cancer in earlier stage so the woman affected has bigger chances to be treated on time. This is also blood test that measures the levels of LPA- lysophosphatidic acid. If its level is raised it may indicate an early stage of ovarian cancer so this is really a great chance for this cancer to lose the epithet of silent cancer.
