Do you know what is actually causing the pain? is it a disease or an injury? if its severe enough, you can see a specialist and they will first assign physical therapy to see if it will help you any. then if that doesn't work, they will probably give you some low dose pain killers and maybe even give you epidural steroid injections(cortisone injections) in the spine. that's what i had done. Most people say it usually helps them after the second injection. So, I hope you get feeling better!

You all sound like me. Cervical, throacic, lumbar, really everything is falling apart on me. Most of the problems started when I had my first child (now I have 4 children at 34). Tried everything just like the rest of you. I don't exercise anymore as all exercise makes me feel 10x worse. I've decided to try something pretty radical. I'm going to have my abdominal wall separation repaired surgically. When it's all healed up I'm sure I will be at least strong enough to do some strengthening. I think the ab problem is the source of much of this pain because of trunk weakness and instability of spine. Not sure if any of you have had symptoms appear after having children, but I never even knew what a backache felt like until after giving birth. It's a gamble, but I'm desperate. I can't continue attempting to live this way.

Understand how u feel. I've been in severe pain for 8 months. Had MRI's,mylegram. Dr.'s can't seem to find out what's wrong. taking pain meds, Lyrica. seems to help for a few hours. I started drinking MONAVIE, an acai berry blend of fruits. It's working! Not having to take as much pain meds. Hopefully I will continue to improve. I also have degenerative disease in my cervical and lumbar areas(11years now, also 2 back surgeries) i'm not having any pain anymore. The only thing I've been doing differently is drinking the juice. Check out the website for info. I'm hearing great results. Got my Mom to drink it,was having pain in her knees, even after surgery. She was hardly able to walk. She's back to bowling again. NO PAIN!-------mymonavie.com/susancole------Hope this helps someone.

Oh my god! So I am not nuts (in this case at least ). I can clearly remember as early as six years old feeling like I couldn't fill my lungs up at the top - I was told to stop doing that of course...the mid of my back has always felt like it needed a good pop IN since it felt so tight and almost like I had a hump at that part - I was told my posture sucked despite the fact when I tried to stand with my shoulders back/straight I would end up in extremem pain and even less able to breath! I also have the exact same issue with a positive ANA but no diagnosis of lupus (but as she put it 'the most definite case of fibromyalgia') and was sent on my way. This was a diagnosis over 9 months ago, and only last week did I ask for a copy of my med file after being asked by the Doc how my fibro was??! of which I had no idea what he was talking about. The arse (Dr)fought me so hard not to give me a copy of this letter of diagnosis that he even cussed! When I finally get my copy and leave the office I read to find out for the first time about being diagnosed (supposedly) with Fibromyalgia, Rhaynauds (since I was early teens I always complained of painfully cold hands but despite mutiple doctors NO ONE every said it was anything other than 'bad circulation' and maybe stress!). I also have the positive ANA and lo and behold "Degenertive Disc Disease of the Thorasic Spine"!!...you think they may have called me about that huh?!....

Sorry for the rant but I have never once in my life posted on a board but while looking up this degenerative thoriasic thing, and currently not being able to breath right for the last two weeks, I saw this posting and couldn't believe someone else has the exact same thing and I'm not just imagining all these things all these years ...

By the way I am only turing 28 years old next week and now want to know what anyone else out there has to offer in way of me doing someting proactive about this -

docs don't seems to get it all together fast enough and I will not wait another 20 years for them to finally help out....thanks for listening and I wish you all the best - Screw'm for being no help and lets all just take control ourselves - we can obviously do a better job of it ... any help is GREATLY APPRECIATED!!!

Same exact pain, heart attach feeling and sharp shooting pain. Mine starts by left shoulder blade near spine and causes a stabbing pain before spreading to chest, etc.
I'm going to a chiro because I too believe it's a rib to spine problem as MRI's only rule out pinched nerves in the spine, not outside of it.
But also am going to get a Standup MRI of mid spine as a condition called destablized Spine could exist, meaning it can't handle the upper body weight, and cause problems while standing or even sitting. Lay down MRI's will most likely miss it.
The heart attack feeling and breathing feeling I believe is being caused by a pinched nerve, as when my back is relaxed, it happens alot, even making shoulders and arms weak, and headaches. But when my back is all spasm and rigid, no movement occurs so it doesn't happen that much.

It is a long painful journy as many musculoskeletal specialist are not educated in this area, chiro's can feel it. One highly recommended musuloskeletal even said it's an area injuries are not very likely to occur, and that was after I informed him of crashing into a parked car left rib cage first. Most likely they are more of a common sports musculoskeletal injuries specialists, not all around types.
Hope this helps

Hi all, im 24 and was diagnosed with Degenerative Disc Disease at 19, it took 5 docs appointment to finally get a ortho referal and an MRI which showed my discs dying and prolapsing, i have sciatica and for a good 6 months was in a type of pain i cant even describe. I can only advise that you dont take painkillers if you dont know your diagnosis - they only mask the pain & your body is trying to tell you something important with some pains (ie - dont bend down that far)... I have been working in hospitals & social care for 6 years and am now an Occupational Therapy student and met lots of people with this condition that had the disc surgery & i can honestly say, no matter how bad the pain gets I WILL NEVER HAVE IT, these people had more problems nerve/spinal chord/range of movement wise & said they regreted. I am now waiting a 2nd MRI as i am now habving pain in my arms, been told ny neuro its possible Thoracic outlet syndrome, (although im having sympotoms for MS which im terrrified of).... so - be persistant with the Doctors, from working in the 'inside' so to speak, i know how busy they are & the younger you are the more difficult to be heard, dont act nervous when you have an appointment, be direct as to where your pain is, TELL THEM WHATS WHAT.

All the best guys.

I am a massage therapist. I belive that you are having problems with your tendons. Not sure where you are located but you want to find someone like me that can perform CTR (Contractual tendon release) this can be very effective. The is a tendon that run straight under your arm pit and follows down into your elbow then down into your wrist and into fingers. Have it done i will be very suprised if it dont work. Just trying to help :)

Hi.

I´m having this annoying left upper back pain and difficulty breathing like some of you here. I just thought we could share experiences, for they haven´t been able to find what´s wrong with me.

Not completely on- or off-topic, but I've suffered from lower back pain for a considerable length of time now, and my sleeping patterns were really suffering. On doctors orders, I bought a memory foam mattress as these are meant to be really good for easing back pain at night. The mattress moulds around the shape of your body and also accounts for any movements you may make during the night.

46 year old female

I sound a lot like you guys. Have been to way too many doctors, but finally got one to give me an MRI. I got a copy on CD and looked at it myself and saw at least two herniated discs. One in the cervical region and the other in the Thoracic region. Have had all the heart tests because this highly resembled a heart attack. Everything checked out normal. Still waiting to hear from my doctor for the "official" diagnosis, but you can't help but see the herniations, nor feel them! It also looks like my spine is starting to deteriorate. :'( I love horseback riding so I hope this doesn't keep me from it. I have gone ahead and scheduled a consult with a neurosurgeon for this next week. I at least need to know what activities I can safely do while in this predicament. %-)

I'm 28, was in a chain reaction accident over a year ago. I was in the middle with the smallest car, basically got hit by two SUV's. You can't see herniated disks on my MRI that took a year to get referred to, I think I see them on my MRI - but docs tried calling it degeneration with a typically disclaimer that it could be "Shermans disease". I'm recently off pain meds, it's the hardest thing I might have ever done for something I was taking to be normal. The only thing I can do for pain is walking it off, and a few ibuprophen that just don't do the job. I will say that dropping the meds finally made me wake up in terms of opening my eyes to what is really important. I feel like hell, but at least I feel something. >;)

Sham on docs putting dollars before patients! It has taken 5 surgeries now to repair a ruptured L3-4. Surgeries that have now fused L1-S1 and severed my root canal, causing me to live with C.R.P.S. III in both legs. I will never live a day without pain even with pain medication so people pick your doctors well and ask lots of questions which often times really does not help, they tell you what you want to hear. My 5th surgery took 12 hours and in ICU for four days. After waking up is when I found out that for a whole year that I knew something was wrong was definetly wrong and that wasted year lost the use of both my legs. Fortunetly, I had a doctor that did two, three, four, and five surgeries, because most doctors will only do one on your lumbar spine. I am now two years out of my last surgery and am concerned of my throatic spine as I am finding it difficult to breath most of the time and I am afraid the fusion has collasped again and now involving my throatic spine and areas around. If so what do I do, have it fixed with possible further damage or no positive result. We are not crazy we are the one's feeling this pain not the surgeons and until one does then that surgeon can work on my back and tell me what is actually wrong. I hope this helps many of you because I know the pain you experience and you gotta do what works for you and only you.

If you want to try, please send me all your MRI, CT, X-ray, scintigraphic documentation(in digital form- I suppose, you've got them in dicom files or in other type of files with the browser attached for them on the CD)
I think I'll find time during vacation to do some investigation concerning problems especially mid-back (thorasic spain) pain problems which exacerbates when you try to take a deep breath. Of course low back pain can co exist.
Please don't write if you had some accident or fracture concerning you spine.
In my opinion, everybody has to exclude organic changes(abnormalities)-usually in imagings studies, then systemic diseases -usually in lab tests, then psychosomatic disorders and then to try to do special exercises stretching all tissues adjacent to backbone (I mean muscles and ligaments in general). Of course, physical examination and taking the patient's medical history by doctor is usually necessary
So if you are eager to share your problem, please don't hesitate to write.
I promise you I'll try to advice. I may have lack of time, but untill the end of august I think I'll have done it.
