The fluttering is new after a really panically attacked when my plane was delayed and was trapped for an hour on the tarmat. Getting to this hun It could be acid reflux from all those anxiety attacks you G.I. is stressed. I had an endoscopy and put on Prilosec for a couple of months. During that time the fluttering was greatly decrease to nil. The bad thing about those meds like prolosec you can't take them forever becaouse it can cause bone loss osteoporosis so I had to stop now my fluttering is back often. Ask yourself has your stomach been barthering you heartburn because that can also cause those attacks you have been having in the middle of the night that you can't breathe. When the acid creaps up your esophogus your thoat will react to protect your lungs from injesting the acid or food comin up. It is worth a try talk to your doctor insist on a work up
take care and good luck

Hi Heidi
I'm sorry you are experienceing these symtoms. I to have had these symtoms for a few years. I went through a battery of test at my doctors. If it was something accually wrong with your heart they would be able to detect it so don't worry about that. I have reflux as well and when I was on my meds for it it did deminish them somewhat. I would only get the fluttering sometimes. I feel it is a combonation of anxiety and reflux. I'm still trying to figure it out myself. You can't stay on reflux meds forever do to certain potential problems. I am dealing with the fluttering once again. Do yourself a favor get your thyroid checked out you might have a problem where it is fluctuating .Even if you never had an issue with your thyroid tell you doctor to check your TSH. Good luck with that let me know how it goes

I would agree, the alcohol withdraw causes anxiety , sweating , dizziness, tachycardia. I get the throat feeling and a skipped beat, it sucks.
