For over a month I have been getting a sensation of my throat tightening sometimes accompanied by a headache. I've had this before in my life but only for a day or two at a time. What is causing it and how can I stop it?

I would suggesting googling "cricopharyngeal spasm" and "Laryngopharyngeal reflux disease" for starters.

Aside from those disorders, don't you think it might be something as simple as allergies? I know my throat behaves in a similar fashion. What makes you think it's those instead?

Hi,
Tightening in the throat can be a symptom of many things however many of them are not too dangerous and last only short period of time. Can you feel any lump in your throat? And when you say your throat is tightened do you mean that your tonsils are swollen or you feel the whole throat to be sore? Sometimes people tend to blame the stress for this, and it’s not impossible, but in my opinion this is caused by some infection in your throat. The thing that you should try to do is to get some rest and get some antibiotics. Also vitamin C can be helpful to boost your immune system to avoid further infection complications.
Good luck,
Danella
