DAY OF SURGERY

Well, after reading the horror stories on here about this procedure, I wanted to share mine. I had a tonsillectomy surgery at 10 am today and its 6:30 pm. Since surgery, I went to get a smoothie, went shopping for soups/food, and remain here typing on my computer. Upon waking after surgery,my throat felt a little swollen (like I had paper in my throat) but the pain was 2-3 (very little). I have already had a gallon of ice water and continue to drink nutritional shakes and more water. Honestly, I have had more discomfort from horrible hangovers, the flu, and other sore throats. Its day one so I will keep this up to date but so far so good.

The skill and experieve of the surgeon is KEY NUMBER ONE. Do research and find one with good reviews as their skill and ability will make the difference. All of the patients that used this surgeon had positive experiences and I dont think that is a coincidence.

Feel free to reply or ask questions as I blog each day.

DAY TWO

I slept pretty well and got up every 4 hours to take the Lortab and drink more water. As of now, I have drank about 3.5-4 gallons of cold purified water. I have also taken Boost nutritional supplement shake and will be starting EAS Myoplex protein shakes today. I also just ate a large bowl of soft buttered noddles. Keeping your body well nurished is crucial to the healing process. Your body cannot heal if it is in starvation mode so EAT EAT EAT. I also plan to go to Whole Foods to stock up on their soft vegetable salads and puree them into baby foods texture. The pain is very minor and I can still say at this point I would rather have this than the flu or a migrane headache. It feels like a sore throat with a little swelling. My muscles are sore today for some reason (not sure if its related to the procedure or my two year old).

If you are thinking about doing this procedure- GO FOR IT. Its not that bad at all if you focus all your energy on recovering (not complaining).

Day THREE and FOUR

No big changes in the last two days...just more of the same. Drinking lots of water, protein shakes, and eating lots of pasta, eggs, and soft fruits. The muscles soreness is gone and I slept quite a bit lately (the pain meds are really making me tired). The level of pain is about a low "2 " (mild sore throat pain when swallowing). I have had no nausea, ear pain, neck pain, or intense throat pain through the entire recovery so far.

DAY FIVE AND SIX

The pain has slightly gone up the last two days but it is still very manageable and is mainly associated with a sore jaw/tooth ache like feeling. I still have been eating soft foods and drinking lots of fluids and soup. I ate chili tonight which probably wasn't the best thing to eat because of the spices (grass fed beef chili taste so good but the "heat" did burn a bit going down). The pain killers still make everthing feel like minor aches and pains and I am glad I will be able to eat a real steak in a week or so!
