i was reading another post and it reminded me.....

i have to go to the dentist in a week to have a tooth pulled and i know i will be prescribed vicodin. if i can make it clean until the appointment next week, will i have a total relapse and screw myself up again? why can't i just be normal and use pain meds for what they're made for? :'(

Hi Aade: You should talk too your dentist about other options, you don't want this too cause a relapse. See if he could put you under, then freeze the area, and then see if you could take Tylenol 3's after. The pain usually lasts 2 - 5 days - depending on your pain tolerance. If there is something they can do for you so your not back on Opiates then they should.

You have too be open with your doctor/dentist, they will understand. I know 1st hand what the temptation is like, just the same as an alcoholic tasting booze after being sober. It NEVER leaves you - that remorse of being off of it - what does change is how you deal with it.

If you have been clean for just a short amount of time this is going too be too hard for you. IF it has been awhile, change your thinking. Think of it as ONLY for a short time and THATS it! But I know that's easier said than done. So talk too your dentist, and have him choose other options, you might have too be in a little more pain, but that will pass. And too be clean is worth it.

Let me know how you make out OK? Good luck hon!

Your welcome and you would be totally surprised at how much health care workers will try and help you with this. Opiate addiction - pain killers - is a relatively new phenomenon!!! Doctors HAVE too perscribe narcotics for you too be out of pain, YET you get addicted too them! It's a catch 22 that the medicle community is just trying too sort out. So they will understand and if they don't MAKE them!!! ;-)

Hi Aade, I noticed that you posted this a little while ago so I wanted to hear what happened when you went to visit your dentist. Did you actually get any painkillers, or were you able to do everything without it? I think that it would help us to know what your experience was in case someone else is in a similar situation. Did it work out well for you, or did you have any complications or difficulty with the procedure? Please let us know!
